A high-performance mobility firm in Cataluña seeks a Design Manager to lead a mechanical battery design team. Responsibilities include ensuring designs meet performance, safety, and cost targets, while fostering a high-performing, collaborative work environment. Candidates should have more than 8 years of experience, expertise in mechanical battery pack design, and leadership skills in high-pressure settings. The role requires fluency in English and proficiency with tools like CATIA V6.

The Design Manager will lead the mechanical battery design team to deliver innovative, manufacturable and compliant solutions that meet performance, safety, and cost targets, contributing directly to BOLD’s purpose of accelerating the future of high-performance electrification.
1. Leadership & Team Development
Build and develop a high-performing design team, fostering ownership, technical excellence, motivation, and a proactive mindset.
Align individual objectives with project goals and company strategy.
Provide continuous feedback, coaching, and technical support to enhance both motivation and performance.
Foster cross-functional collaboration with systems, simulation, electrical, manufacturing, procurement and quaility teams.
Drive consistency in standards across the team and lead the implementation of best practices, including guidance on CAD methodologies and tool usage (e.g., CATIA V6).
Help the team break down complex technical problems into manageable parts and support resolution when blockers arise.
Provide hands-on guidance in the use of CATIA V6 to ensure quality and efficiency in design execution.
2. Project & Technical Oversight
Ensure mechanical battery designs meet functional, regulatory and customer requirements.
Review and advice design solutions, drawing packages and documentation.
Ensure BOMs across projects are accurate, regularly updated, and shared with the appropriate stakeholders.
Support the team in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) activities and guide them through the process of technical validation with suppliers.
Manage technical risks and trade-offs across design iterations.
Support integration of new technologies, materials, and manufacturing processes.
Define and monitor design KPIs and ensure milestones are met on time and within scope.
3. Collaboration & Stakeholder Communication
Represent the design team in technical discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
Align design efforts with system-level and project-level objectives.
Collaborate with Systems and TPL teams to prioritise engineering resources and resolve technical blockers, while working with Project Managers to balance workload and ensure timely and successful delivery.
Support commercial and delivery teams in pre-sales or customer project discussions.
Guide and empower designers to engage directly with suppliers when needed, fostering agility and technical autonomy.
