The International Organizations Health (IOH) business Legal and Compliance team primarily supports the European business and is a collaborative, high-performing function that values the support of the business. A vacancy has arisen for a lawyer to support Cigna's IOH business and the wider International Markets legal and compliance team.

The successful candidate will be a valued subject matter expert and trusted business partner, involved in shaping opportunities and projects from the outset. There will be opportunities to work with senior leaders including the Head of Legal for IOH, Chief European Counsel, International Head of Privacy, European Compliance Officer, and business leaders including the Senior Leadership Team of IOH. Externally, there will be opportunities to collaborate with law firms and interact with regulators relevant to the IOH business.

You will work closely with colleagues in Legal and Compliance, supporting the IOH business with legal and regulatory advice to support operational, strategic, and financial goals. The role's scope is broad, covering regulatory advice, contract work, litigation, insurance advisory, commercial law, and corporate law.

ROLE SUMMARY

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, flexible, commercially aware lawyer with at least 3-4 years of experience in the insurance or healthcare sectors. Fluency in English is essential; proficiency in French is desirable.

The role involves drafting contracts and legal documents, supporting sales in new business acquisition, advising on regulatory issues like FSMA/NBB, collaborating with legal teams across geographies, monitoring legislative changes, and supporting strategic projects and new product proposals.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide legal support and advice to the IOH business;
  • Draft contracts, policies, distribution agreements, outsourcing and supplier agreements, NDAs, ToBAs, appointed representative agreements;
  • Support sales activities related to new business;
  • Advise on regulatory issues including FSMA/NBB;
  • Collaborate with legal colleagues across regions;
  • Monitor legal developments and advise the business accordingly;
  • Improve processes within the Legal and Compliance team proactively.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Qualified lawyer in Spain with 3-4 years' experience, trained in private practice or in-house;
  • Experience in insurance, especially health insurance, is essential;
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in French is desirable;
