As the Associate Director of Scientific Communications, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping and executing publication strategies that align with Alexion's brand and corporate goals. Collaborating closely with the Director of Hematology Scientific Communication, you'll engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality scientific content. From abstracts to manuscripts, your expertise will drive impactful communication within the medical and scientific community. Accountabilities
  • Participate in the development and implementation of strategic publication plans for assigned products and disease indications.
  • Ensure timely execution of publications to produce high-quality, accurate, and impactful deliverables including abstracts, posters, oral presentations, manuscripts, and slide decks.
  • Engage in planning, development, and implementation of medical educational plans and scientific programs that communicate crucial information to the medical community.
  • Manage and track publication plans to ensure timely execution.
  • Collaborate with external authors, investigators, and thought leaders on various scientific deliverables.
  • Analyze and interpret scientific and clinical data, identifying appropriate forums for publication and presentation.
  • Conduct routine literature searches and interpret scientific literature for internal stakeholders, including competitor assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with Alexion’s Publication Policy.
Essential Skills/Experience
  • Advanced degree: PhD, PharmD, or MD
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in a Pharmaceutical company or Medical Communications agency
  • Experience in strategic publication planning (including scientific platforms), tactical publication planning and implementation, and the planning and development of medical educational materials
  • Ability to interpret and organize highly complex scientific data, including experience reviewing clinical trial data and output from statistical analysis programs
  • Must be skilled writer with demonstrated ability to write / review / edit / place scientific articles, abstracts, posters
  • Strong working knowledge of current good publication practices and guidelines
  • Understanding of the clinical development process, especially clinical study and global health outcome data
  • Ability to collaborate with medical publications agencies to plan, write and develop abstracts, posters, oral presentations, manuscripts, slide decks and content for scientific and educational programs
  • Experience in working closely with thought leaders and authors
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Negotiation skills and a strong scientific background.
  • Ability to travel (US and International) as necessary
Desirable Skills/Experience
  • Background or prior experience in hematology
  • Experience in planning and implementation of symposia and development of medical education materials
  • Experience with publication management software (e.g., Datavision)
  • CMPP / AMWA certification highly desired
