Job Description

We are on the lookout for a Data Scientist to join the Search & Ranking team within consumer discovery on our journey to always deliver amazing experiences.

1. Develop and Optimize Search Algorithms: Enhance and research new search machine learning algorithms, such as learning to rank, semantic search, and personalization, to deliver the most relevant results to our users.
2. Collaborate Across Teams: Work as part of a cross-functional team, including Backend Engineers, Product Managers, and Data Engineers, to improve our global search end-2-end.
3. Analyze and Interpret Large Datasets: Extract meaningful insights to understand relevance problems.
4. Innovate and Experiment: Identify and apply the best machine learning and statistical methods to solve complex problems, ensuring solutions are scalable and effective in production environments.
5. Navigate Ambiguity: Define and tackle data science problems amidst ambiguity, ensuring clear problem definitions and actionable insights.

Qualifications

1. Experience: Master's degree (or Bachelor's with 4+ years of work experience) in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Theoretical Chemistry, or similar. 2+ years of experience as a data scientist working on applying data science fundamentals to solve complex business problems.
2. Technical Expertise: Proficiency in SQL and Python and its ML ecosystem is essential. Experience with Java and Scala is a plus.
3. Machine Learning Knowledge: Strong understanding of a wide variety of ML and statistical methods, including Classical ML, Deep Learning, NLP, and Recommendation Systems. Ability to discern the most suitable approach for different problems.
4. Search and Ranking ML Algorithms: Hands-on experience with search machine learning algorithms, such as learning to rank, semantic search, and personalization.
5. Problem-Solving: Comfortable with ambiguity and capable of navigating it to define clear data science problems and solutions. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering practical solutions.
6. Collaborative Spirit: Proven experience working in cross-functional teams, contributing effectively to joint projects and achieving common goals. Excellent communication skills to articulate complex ideas and influence stakeholders.
