Tesla is seeking a dynamic and creative Associate Environmental Specialist to join the Global Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Team and support environmental compliance regarding Circular Economy and Waste Management. Reporting to the Associate Environmental Manager at the Gigafactory, he or she will be responsible for ensuring Tesla operates in permit and legal compliance with regulations during all phases of site operations (construction, start-up, and full production). This position will also serve as environmental subject matter expert for Circular Economy, Recycling and Waste Management. This position will be based in Berlin, Germany and will require some limited international travel (up to 10% of the time) to Tesla’s North American and EMEA operations.

What You'll Do

Ensure Tesla operates in compliance with all applicable national, regional, and local environmental laws, permits and regulations regarding Circular Economy and Waste Management Support

Monitoring of legal and permit requirements in this specialist topic, steers and drives measures and corrective actions to fulfill the requirements

Lead waste related environmental permitting efforts

Prepare and submit environmental reports in accordance with Circular Economy Act and further waste related legally required reporting

Ensure efficient monitoring of hazardous waste management

Perform site inspections to verify compliance and drives corrective actions

Collect, analyze, and interpret environmental data to assess risk and evaluate permit and legal compliance in cooperation with the EHS compliance team and shop representatives

Prepare waste statistics, analyses, and management summariesInterface with regulatory authorities and oversee regulatory inspections (e.g. IED inspection)

Conduct and/or support incident and deviation analysis and drive corrective actions.

Identify, analyze and track new and emerging environmental regulations and implement programs and procedures to maintain legal and permit compliance regarding waste management

Drive projects to improve environmental performance for circular economy

Conduct inspection and audits for waste vendors

Oversee disposal routes from the generation of the waste to the recovery or disposal

Monitoring of compliance with legal regulations in connection with waste generation and disposal

Development of proposals and introduction of measures for waste reduction and work

Perform classification of waste based on the distinct legislation and policy instruments according to their source and properties

Appointed Waste Management Officer:All tasks related to

60 Kreislaufwirtschaftsgesetz (24. Februar 2012) Circular Economy Act in combination with Abfallbeauftragtenverordnung (2. Dezember 2016) Annex 2, II, 1a-e), in particular:

the control of compliance with waste legislation,

informing the company employees about the prevention and management of waste,

the submission of opinions on investment decisions and proposals for the introduction of environmentally friendly and low-waste processes as well as to produce environmentally friendly and low-waste products,

Annual Waste Management Officer reporting to the management on implemented and suggested measures

Optimization potential for waste: Reduction of disposal costs through methods for cost-efficient waste management

What You'll Bring

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science or a closely related EHS discipline; alternatively, the equivalent in experience

Experience managing environmental compliance programs and waste management for manufacturing facilities and/or construction projects

Qualification as certified Waste Management Officer or the ability is a plus

Strong technical knowledge and skills implementing and complying with the national and related international Waste Management and Circular Economy regulations at a large manufacturing facility

Evidence of exceptional ability and demonstrated success managing Waste Management, Circular Economy and recycling programs

Fluent in German and English (verbal and written)

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook

Additional Desired Qualifications

Advanced degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a closely related EHS discipline, and/or evidence of exceptional experience.

Further certifications of Environmental Representatives or other globally recognized accredited certification in EHS.

Previous experience in automotive or energy storage product manufacturing.

Tesla sucht eine dynamische und kreative Persönlichkeit als Environmental Specialist, um das globale Team für Umwelt, Gesundheit und Sicherheit (EHS) zu verstärken und die Einhaltung von Umweltvorschriften im Bereich Kreislaufwirtschaft und Abfallmanagement zu unterstützen. Unter Berichterstattung an den EHS Manager am Gigafactory-Standort wird die Person dafür verantwortlich sein, sicherzustellen, dass Tesla während aller Phasen der Standortoperationen (Bau, Inbetriebnahme und Serienproduktion) behördlichen und rechtlichen Vorschriften entspricht. Diese Position fungiert zudem als fachliche Expertin oder fachlicher Experte für Kreislaufwirtschaft, Recycling und Abfallmanagement. Der Arbeitsort ist Berlin, Deutschland, mit gelegentlichen internationalen Reisen (bis zu 10 % der Arbeitszeit) zu Tesla-Standorten in Nordamerika und der EMEA-Region (Europa, Naher Osten, Afrika).

Verantwortlichkeiten

Sicherstellen, dass Tesla allen anwendbaren nationalen, regionalen und lokalen Umweltgesetzen, Genehmigungen und Vorschriften im Bereich Kreislaufwirtschaft und Abfallmanagement entsprechen

Überwachung der gesetzlichen und behördlichen Anforderungen zu diesem Fachthema, Steuerung und Durchführung von Maßnahmen und Korrekturmaßnahmen zur Erfüllung der Anforderungen

Leitung von genehmigungsrelevanten Aktivitäten zum Abfallmanagement

Erstellung und Einreichung von Umweltberichten gemäß Kreislaufwirtschaftsgesetz und weiteren abfallrechtlichen Meldepflichten

Sicherstellen eines effizienten Gefahrstoffabfallmanagements

Durchführung von Begehungen zur Verifizierung der Einhaltung und Initiierung von Korrekturmaßnahmen

Sammeln, Analysieren und Interpretieren von Umweltdaten zur Risikobewertung und Beurteilung der Genehmigungs- und Rechtskonformität in Zusammenarbeit mit dem EHS-Konformitätsteam und Shop-Vertretern

Erstellung von Abfallstatistiken, Analysen und Managementzusammenfassungen

Schnittstelle zu Behörden und Begleitung von regulatorischen Inspektionen (z.B. IED-Inspektion)

Durchführung und/oder Unterstützung von Vorfall- und Abweichungsanalysen sowie Initiierung von Korrekturmaßnahmen

Identifizierung, Analyse und Verfolgung neuer und sich entwickelnder Umweltvorschriften und Implementierung von Programmen und Prozessen zur Gewährleistung der Rechts- und Genehmigungskonformität im Abfallmanagement

Entwicklung von Vorschlägen und Einführung von Maßnahmen zur Abfallreduzierung

Klassifizierung von Abfällen basierend auf spezifischen gesetzlichen und politischen Instrumenten entsprechend ihrer Herkunft und Eigenschaften

Anforderungen

Bachelor-Abschluss in Umweltingenieurwesen, Chemieingenieurwesen, Umweltwissenschaften oder einer verwandten EHS-Disziplin; alternativ gleichwertige Berufserfahrung

Erfahrung in der Leitung von Umweltkonformitätsprogrammen und Abfallmanagement für Produktionsstätten und/oder Bauprojekte

Qualifikation als zertifizierter Abfallbeauftragter oder Bereitschaft zur Zertifizierung von Vorteil

Fundiertes technisches Wissen und Erfahrung in der Implementierung und Einhaltung nationaler und internationaler Vorschriften zum Abfallmanagement und zur Kreislaufwirtschaft in großen Produktionsanlagen

Nachweisbare außergewöhnliche Fähigkeiten und Erfolge im Management von Abfall, Kreislaufwirtschaft und Recyclingprogrammen

Fließend in Deutsch und Englisch (sowohl mündlich als auch schriftlich)

Sicherer Umgang mit Microsoft Excel, Word und Outlook

Weitere erwünschte Qualifikationen
