A global cloud services company in Berlin is seeking experienced systems engineers to join their Operations team for the launch of the European Sovereign Cloud. The role includes overseeing day-to-day operations, collaborating with global teams, and enhancing the availability of AWS services. The ideal candidate will have expertise in systems engineering, experience with scripting, and a solid understanding of Linux and networking. Candidates must be nationals of EU member states. This position may include participation in on-call rotations.
AWS is set to introduce the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC). We are seeking experienced systems engineers with a strong background in automation and operations to join the AWS Managed Operations team. You will help build and lead operations and development teams delivering high-availability AWS services for EU customers, including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock. For more information on ESC please check out our blog: https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/in-the-works-aws-european-sovereign-cloud/
Responsibilities include overseeing the launch of the ESC in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams, and influencing the evolution of AWS services and technology. You will work with technology leaders to enhance day-to-day operations and improve availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC. The role may require occasional participation in on-call rotations to resolve incidents occurring out-of-hours. The overarching goal is to deliver scalable services and ensure a high-availability experience for EU customers. This is a challenging opportunity to help build a best-in-class development, engineering, and operations team aligned with AWS’ commitment to customer satisfaction and continual innovation.
Utility Computing (UC) and ESC context: European Sovereign Cloud is part of AWS Utility Computing, which provides innovations from foundational services like S3 and EC2 to new product innovations that differentiate AWS. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services. Managed Operations engineers engage with AWS customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
Embark on a week focused on the operation and improvement of significant software systems. Review the operational health of services within your team’s responsibility, identify anomalies, and craft actionable bug reports to enhance efficiency and performance. You will provide constructive feedback on change management documents, address operational backlog, and collaborate to ensure seamless functionality of your systems. You will develop and test scripts to improve workflows, and share insights on the European Sovereign Cloud with service teams to foster knowledge sharing. The role includes 24x7 on-call responsibility and requires working as a team to root-cause issues and maintain operational excellence.
Diverse Experiences: AWS values diverse experiences. We encourage candidates to apply even if they do not meet all preferred qualifications. If your career is just starting or you have an unconventional path, don’t let it stop you from applying.
