A Day in the Life Job Specific Summary

In this role, you will join a world class team of mechanical, electrical and software engineers responsible for further development and enhancement of the globally launched Robotic Assisted Surgery platform within the Surgical Operating unit. The Hugo Surgical Robot is part of Medtronic’s Robotic Assisted Surgery portfolio. The Surgical Operating Unit brings together Surgical Robotics and Surgical Innovations to advance robotics and digital solutions for customers and patients.

Located at the Medtronic office in the Seaport District of Boston, MA, as a Software Product Owner.

You Will
  • Lead the product development efforts in the Software Center of Excellence of the Surgical Robotics Organization.
  • Work with multiple stakeholders from an all-access position within the Software Engineering Center of Excellence to prioritize and define the scope of the development work.
  • Work with scrum teams to develop, groom and prioritize the backlog using SAFe framework for scaled agile development.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders including Core teams, PMO, UX/UI, systems, hardware, and others to define user needs and requirements.
  • Work on developing next-generation instruments and platform for the Hugo Surgical Robot.
  • Work in a fast-paced and highly regulated environment with a cross-functional group of software developers, test engineers and quality engineers, collaborating to develop and design next generation features for the Hugo system, including requirements definition, design, code implementation, unit testing, and software and system verification and validation.
  • Participate in SAFe/Agile activities including Increment Planning, Increment Review, and Feature refinement.
Must Have
  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or
  • Advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
  • Experience as a Product Owner or Product Manager of at least 3 years working on complex products.
Nice to Have
  • Experience leading multiple teams as a product owner
  • Experience leading distributed teams as a product owner
  • Formal Scrum/SAFe certification and experience
  • Experience working on hybrid HW/SW products using scaled agile framework
  • Familiarity with object-oriented design and modern programming languages (C++, Python, Simulink)
  • Hands-on experience in developing, debugging, and troubleshooting software issues
  • Experience in software architecture design, creating design documents and diagrams
  • Understanding of SDLC processes and tools (e.g., JIRA, Bitbucket, Confluence, Git, CMake)
  • Good understanding of software concepts and IEC 62304
  • Ability to distill software requirements from system requirements and manage multiple projects
  • Experience in software development in the medical devices industry
  • Experience or basic understanding of surgical robotics
  • Experience working in highly regulated environments
  • Experience with medical device regulations (ISO 13485/14971, GMP, FDA, IEC 62304)
  • Experience performing risk management analysis of software (e.g., SW FMEA)

Salary ranges for U.S. locations (USD): $122,400.00 - $183,600.00. This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding certain locations. The offered rate may vary based on experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location.
