Role Definition
Caterpillar is seeking a Senior Manager of Human Resources in the Large Power Systems Division for an exciting role based in Mannheim, Germany. The Senior Manager of Human Resources directs the development and implementation of HR strategies aligned with business objectives, provides guidance on HR policies and practices, and fosters a culture of employee engagement and development.
What You Will Do
- Develop and implement a future-oriented HR strategy
- Act as a trusted coach providing guidance to leaders and managers on HR-related matters, including performance management, compensation, and benefits, HR Policies and strategic HR initiatives
- Align HR policies and programs for a location or region which promote employee engagement, retention, and performance
- Provide sound management skills in leading/managing strategic projects
- Analyze HR metrics and data to identify trends and opportunities and develop a story to provide data-driven recommendations to senior management
- Collaborate with senior management as a strategic advisor helping identify and prioritize HR initiatives that align with the organization's strategic goals and objectives
- Strategically lead a team of around 15 HR & Learning professionals to meet the needs of the organisation
- Lead projects and develop and implement change management methods and materials to facilitate deployment of HR programs and processes
- You will develop attractive offers for vocational training and dual study courses
- Lead on collaboration with the local works council ensuring regular dialogue and execution of any works council agreements
Required Skills
- Business Acumen: Knowledge of business concepts, tools, and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of the company's business; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations
- Knowledge of Organization: Knowledge of the organization's vision, structure, culture, philosophy, operating principles, values, and code of ethics; ability to understand the value of aligning capabilities with business goals to support optimal performance
- Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment
- Influencing: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization
- Leadership: Knowledge of leadership practices and processes; ability to use strategies and skills to enlist others in setting, embracing and achieving objectives while having a long-term perspective of the future state of things and how to get there
- Human Resources Consulting: Knowledge of HR approaches, tools and techniques; ability to inform, guide and advise managers in HR-related initiatives
- Talent Management: Knowledge of how an organization attracts, recruits, retains, identifies and develops talent; ability to develop the talent required for an organization to achieve its short-term and long-term goals
Additional Requirements
- Very good German (at least C1) and good English skills (at least B2)
- Extensive expertise in the areas of works constitution, social security and labour law as well as in the application of collective agreements, ideally in the metal and electrical industries
- Experience in working with works councils and execution of company agreements
- Several years of professional experience in human resources management and in a leading position and experience in leading a HR team, preferably in a large manufacturing organization

- This is a full onsite role, 5 days a week
