Your mission

The Position at XU:

At XU, we don't just teach technology; we translate pedagogy into the AI world. We are looking for an engineer or technical expert to represent the field of Internet of Things (IoT). You will prepare students to build the physical infrastructure of the digital age – from sensors to smart factories. As part of our AI-core learning model, you will guide "explorers" through real-world projects involving connectivity, robotics, and automation.

Key Responsibilities:

You will assume duties in teaching, research, and academic self-administration in accordance with § 42 and § 43 BbgHG.

  • Teaching & Student Supervision: Teaching modules in the study program in classroom, blended, and online formats. This includes module responsibility, examination acceptance, and student supervision.

  • Program Development: Active participation in the further development of study programs, quality assurance, and accreditation procedures. This involves the conception, creation, and adaptation of teaching and learning materials.

  • Research & Transfer: Development of a distinct personal research profile and publication of results. You will initiate, expand, and maintain cooperation with partners in industry and research.

  • Administration: Active participation in academic administration, committee work, and student recruitment events.

  • IoT and Sensors

  • Robotics & Automation

  • Industry 4.0 Applications

  • Smart Factories

  • Smart Services

  • Advanced Virtual Environments (VR, AR, MR)


Your profile

Your Profile & Research Focus:

While a broad understanding of the field is expected, we seek a candidate who can deepen at least one of the following core areas:

  • Industrial IoT & Sensor Systems: Hardware design, embedded systems, and sensor networks.

  • Connectivity & Edge Computing: 5G, LPWAN, and industrial network architectures.

  • Robotics & Automation: Control engineering, autonomous systems, and cyber-physical integration.

  • Smart Applications: Applying IoT to Smart Factories (Industry 4.0) or Smart Cities.

Requirements (§ 43 BbgHG):

  • Completed university degree and a PhD (magna cum laude or equivalent).

  • Pedagogical aptitude for teaching in English.

  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience, of which at least 2 years were spent outside the university sector.

  • Relevant practical experience in engineering, hardware development, or industrial R&D.

  • Experience in acquiring third-party funding is considered an asset.
