We are currently looking for a highly motivated Master Thesis Student (M/F/D) Confidential Computing to join our Research & Development team in Munich. We search for a student to measure the overhead of confidential computing and identify bottlenecks in competing implementations of confidential computing. The hardware and open-source repositories are available, but require the setup of a testbed and evaluation. Ideally, overheads are measured, analyzed, and reduced by improved operations, parallelization, etc.
Confidential computing is a promising technology for preserving data privacy by protecting data in use on shared hardware. The implementation of confidential computing is not standardized yet and depends on the manufacturer, e.g., AMD and Intel. Generally, confidential computing utilizes symmetric encryption algorithms within the GPU or CPU to preserve data privacy.
Principle duties and essential functions
Compare different architectures for confidential computing
Define applications and use cases based on literature
Setu up a testbed and test scenarios to evaluate confidential computing
Analyze overheads and propose or test measures for reduction and improved efficiency
Participation in research and development projects
Knowledge, skills and experience required
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related field.
Solid understanding of IT networks and information security principles.
Good programming skills in Python or similar.
Knowledge about computer architectures and operating systems.
Foundation in cryptography.
Ideally worked with confidential computing.
Good presentation and communication skills.
Innovative, highly motivated personality.
Fluent in oral and written English, preferably also in German.
Capability to think strategic, innovative, constructive and application oriented.
