Job Description

Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is looking for a MAP Engineer II A220 to join our A220 Engineering Department based in Mobile, AL.

The Liaison Engineer (MAP) is responsible for the development and approval of solutions related to aircraft non-conformities which require engineering expertise and delegation to be resolved. The MAP Engineer represents a particular engineering specialty including, but not limited to: Aircraft Systems, Cabin, Electrical and Mechanical Installation, and Structures.

Your challenges

Primary Responsibilities: 50%

  • Responsible for creation/approval/authorization (release) of technical solutions including justification reports for repairs / reworks and troubleshooting instructions and the identification, explanation, resolution and documentation of anomalies which will be delivered with the aircraft to the design office and the authorities (EASA, FAA or Transport Canada TC).
  • Involved in all aircraft systems and structure (metallic/composite).
  • Analyses all reported malfunctions of aircraft systems/structures and launches trouble-shooting activities.
  • Represents all design offices, subcontractors and risk-sharing partners.
  • Represents the Single Aisle Chief Engineer/Design Office and acts as interface between the design organization and the manufacturing organization.

Additional Responsibilities: 50%

  • Creates, checks, approves & releases covering technical design solutions.
  • Supports the FAL US from the delivery of A/C sections, via FAL process, flight line activities and up to the ferry flight in all Aircraft related items including the presentation in front of the customer, if needed.
  • Responsible for the creation, validation, approval and monitoring of corrective actions (launch of new modifications, drawing updates, design query notes, improvements and avoidance of recurrent issues).
  • Responsible for the creation of temporary aircraft definitions (special instructions) in line with airworthiness requirements.
  • Knowledge of internal processes and procedures and ability to use manuals (Aircraft Wiring List, Aircraft Maintenance Manual, Illustrated Parts Catalog) for research and verification.
  • Non-conformities (NCs) are written by production/quality departments or Flight Test Engineers when deviations/damages are detected.
  • As part of the Liaison Engineering/MAP team, may perform tasks including onsite service, cost center management, flight clearance prerequisites, training onsite staff, process improvements, MRB audits, etc.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience to obtain delegation from the Design Office to perform engineering activities under MRB.
  • Executes intermediate to complex engineering assignments requiring familiarity with several fields of engineering.
  • Conducts research to solve practical problems and develops innovative engineering techniques.
  • Generates and reviews documentation for approval and progress reporting.
  • May be responsible for small work packages.
Your boarding pass (Qualifications)
  • Bachelor degree in Engineering or related discipline with 4 years of related work experience or Master’s degree with 3 years of related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 to 8 years of experience or demonstrated knowledge for the level of role.
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant preferred.
  • 10% Domestic and International Travel.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of indication, alert and recording systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of engine, fuel, pneumatic, APU, hydraulic, cabin systems, and advanced metallic/composite aerospace structures.
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical systems and configuration management.
  • Demonstrated success in identifying and solving problems; self-motivated and able to work across boundaries.
  • French preferred; Catia experience preferred.
  • Plans activities on short and mid-term basis and may recommend improvements.
