The Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB) is a pioneer and a driver of bioeconomy research. We create the scientific foundation to transform agricultural, food, industrial and energy systems into a sustainable bio-based circular economy. We develop and integrate techniques, processes and management strategies, effectively converging technologies to intelligently crosslink highly diverse bioeconomic production systems and to control them in a knowledge-based, adaptive and largely automated manner. We conduct research in dialogue with society, policymakers, industry and other stakeholders - knowledge-driven and application-inspired.

The Department of Microbiome Biotechnology aims to harness microbial communities for various applications in agriculture and environmental health. We employ cutting-edge microbiological and molecular techniques to study the complex interactions within microbiomes and develop innovative solutions. With a multidisciplinary approach that includes microbiology, genetics, bioinformatics, and bioprocesses, our mission is to revolutionize the understanding of microbial ecosystems and optimize industrial processes.

To support laboratory activities in our department, we are seeking a

Your tasks

  • Preparation and execution of microbiological experiments (autoclaving, media preparation, cultivation of microorganisms)
  • Handling S1/S2 organisms (isolation, cultivation, characterization, archiving)
  • RNA/DNA extraction and purification, PCR and qPCR, gel electrophoresis, sterile work
  • Recording experimental plans and results
  • Technical support for PhD students
  • Procurement of consumables and equipment
  • Contribution to laboratory infrastructure and maintenance
  • Participation in field sampling (animal facilities), execution of biotechnological and process-related experiments
  • Microscopy and sequencing
  • Statistical analysis and data visualization are desirable
  • Completed degree or vocational training in the fields of biology, chemistry, biotechnology, chemical engineering or comparable technical training
  • Practical experience in microbiology and molecular biology, ideally with S1/S2 organisms
  • Good command of English and German, spoken and written
  • Independent working style, commitment, teamwork, communication skills, and solution-oriented mindset
  • EU driving license class B and willingness to travel for work.

The full-time position (40 hours/week) is initially limited to two years. Part-time employment (at least 30 hours/week) is also possible if desired. Salary will be based on your qualifications and experience according to TV-L up to pay grade 9a.
