Jobbeschreibung

The Max Planck Society is one of Europe's leading research organizations and conducts basic research in the natural sciences, life sciences, and humanities. The Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology in Jena carries out fundamental research on how organisms communicate with each other via chemical signals.

We analyze ecological interactions with molecular, chemical and neurobiological techniques. In the Institute, organic chemists, biochemists, ecologists, entomologists, behavioral scientists, insect geneticists and physiologists work in collaboration to unravel the complexity of chemical communication that occurs in nature.

The Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology invites expressions of interest from outstanding scientists for the position of Director. A Max Planck Director pursues a bold long-term research agenda in his or her own Department, and leads the Institute jointly with fellow Directors.

Applicants should have achieved internationally recognized distinction in chemical ecology, i.e. the study of ecological interactions mediated by chemical signals among all forms of life. Research should have a strong focus on chemical ecology in a broad sense and complement the wide-ranging interests of the Institute, which include interactions among plants, animals, bacteria, and fungi, with an emphasis on terrestrial ecosystems; encompassing symbiosis, competition, herbivory, predation, and pathogenesis; using chemical, biochemical, genetic, physiological, behavioral, ecological and evolutionary approaches.

We are looking for the most creative scientists worldwide who demonstrate academic leader- and mentorship at the highest level and standard. We offer an excellent international research environment, outstanding infrastructure, and generous long-term scientific funding.

If we have sparked your interest, please submit your expression of interest.

  • Expressions of interest will be held in strict confidence.

The Max Planck Society is committed to gender equality and diversity and actively supports the reconciliation of work and family life. We want to increase the proportion of women in areas where they are underrepresented. The Max Planck Society has also set itself the goal of employing more persons with severe disabilities. We therefore encourage them to apply. We also welcome applications from all backgrounds.

We are looking forward to getting your complete application documents. For more information, please visit our website: www.ice.mpg.de
