Social Worker (MSW)- Mobile Crisis Response Team-Temporary Part-Time

Status : Temporary Part-Time (9-12 months with possible extension)

Department : Mobile Crisis Response Team

Union Association : OPSEU

Hours: Days/Evenings extended tours – Subject to changed based on operational needs

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Program Manager of the Emergency Department and Critical Care Program the mobile crisis response team is responsible for the provision of a full range of client-centred clinical services. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, responding to telephone crisis calls and referrals, clinical and risk assessments, providing consultation and collaboration, coordination, education, advocacy, referral and/or facilitating transitions in care across health care settings and liaising with community partners including police, EMS and first responders. Working as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, the Social Worker promotes the role of community treatment and collaborates with Police Services and other community resources to help meet the mental health needs of the individual. The Social Worker works in accordance with Brockville General policies and the regulations of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).

There is also an expectation that the Social Worker will participate in in-service and hospital wide activities and programs that model and promote a safe and healthy client-centred environment as well as contributing to quality improvement and risk management initiatives.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in social work from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with people who have been diagnosed with a serious mental illness/substance use disorder in an Acute Mental Health setting, Community Mental Health setting or Mental Health Crisis Team.
  • Demonstrated and experienced on risk assessments, suicide prevention, principles of crisis theory and intervention
  • Valid BCLS and CPR certification.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development as evidenced by participation in programs, courses, seminars that enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Demonstrated competency to administer naloxone in emergent situations.
  • Completion of Suicide Intervention Training (ASIST) is required.
  • Knowledge of Crisis Management is preferred.
  • Non-violent Crisis Prevention and Intervention Training is required.
  • Current drivers abstract, a Valid Class G Ontario driver’s license and current vehicle insurance in good standing is required to participate in community programming, mobile crisis response team, home visits and/or traveling to satellite offices.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven ability to conduct nursing assessments, risk assessments, suicide prevention
  • Demonstrated crisis intervention skills for both telephone and person-to-person
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in providing treatment methods such as individual, group and family therapy, to persons with an acute and/or severe mental illness.
  • Knowledge of inpatient and community based mental health and wellness resources for youth, and adults
  • Experience providing a range of evidence based therapy modalities, including Cognitive behavioural therapy, Narrative Therapy, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational interviewing and crisis intervention/management.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including, but not limited to, The Mental Health Act, The Regulated Health Professionals Act, The Substitute Decisions Act, The Health Care Consent Act, and the Personal Health Information Protection Act.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop solid partnerships with police, EMS, hospitals, law enforcement agencies, health and social service agencies and other agencies.
  • Knowledge of psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatment methods.
  • Strong clinical assessment skills in mental health
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in providing treatment to persons with an acute and/or severe mental illness.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of community resources, programs and agencies available for clients with mental health/substance use disorders and their families/significant others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, cooperatively and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team environment including participation in treatment consultations.
  • Experience working in a computerized environment, sound knowledge and understanding of computer-based operations
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and awareness of the stigma frequently experienced by persons carrying a psychiatric diagnosis
  • Working in concert with Police Services, providing first responder (911) face-to-face assessment of a person in crisis, including mental health assessments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering culturally diverse environment and 2SLGBTQ sensitive care
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to Trauma and violence-informed approaches to practice.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment,
  • Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as relates to client care
