Job summary

A community services organization in Central Ontario is seeking a Recreation Regional Coordinator to manage the Norfolk County Summer Day Camp programs. Responsibilities include providing excellent customer service, ensuring camper safety, compiling attendance records, and coordinating with various staff to deliver enjoyable and diversified camp programs. The ideal candidate must be a post-secondary student with relevant skills and experience, such as customer service and teamwork abilities. The position offers up to 40 hours per week at a rate of $20.24 per hour from April to August 2026.

Qualifications

  • University or College student with relevant studies.
  • Computer expertise in standard corporate software and recreation-based systems.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR Level C by May 19, 2026.
  • HIGH FIVE certification by May 19, 2026.
  • Valid Ontario Class 'G' license and reliable vehicle.

Position Description:
  • Provide excellent customer service and administration for all aspects of the Norfolk County Summer Day Camp, Skills and Outdoor Adventure Camp Programs
  • Implement safe, enjoyable and diversified summer camp programs as established in conjunction with Supervisor, Community Programs, Recreation Coordinators/Programmers, Day Camp Coordinators and Leaders.
  • Provide support to camp staff, parents and participants to help create an environment that will support individual participant’s needs, allowing them to develop skills, self-esteem; and participate alongside peers in an inclusive environment.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers and staff during camp hours.
  • Compile camper and staff attendance and ensure that it has been taken accurately on a daily basis.
  • Ensure that there has been a compilation and review of all accommodation records of campers, taking special note of any allergies and other medical problems, and that they have been forwarded to appropriate staff.
  • Ensure that all parents have received required information during the summer day camp program duration regarding camp regulations, special events, swimming, lunches, bus times etc.
  • Liaise with the Communications Specialists and Customer Service staff to market/reach patrons through social and print media.
  • Develop camper groups for all sessions taking into consideration age and camper group requests.
  • Ensure that there is an inventory of supplies and equipment to effectively operate a quality camp and coordinate the order/purchase of supplies prior to and during program.
  • Maintain ongoing and effective communication with parents, public and staff. Communicate often with Customer Service staff regarding registration and camper needs.
  • Assist with the facilitation of special events hosted by Norfolk County including summer day camp water related events.
  • Maintain and models a professional attitude and abides by Norfolk County policies and procedures and Summer Day Camp Procedures at all times.
  • Train, supervise, mentor and evaluate camp staff, as well as conduct staff meetings. Visits each program site often to provide hands on support.
  • As a member of the Summer Day Camp team, evaluates day camp staff and programming a minimum of three times during the 8 weeks of camp programming.
  • Actively involved with Recreation Programmers and Coordinators in planning and facilitating day camp coordinators and leaders staff training Attends all required Recreation Programs related meetings, as required, both prior to and during camp.
  • Encourage and fosters all campers in the 5 Principles of Healthy Child Development as outlined by High Five: Quality at Play.
  • Organize day camp staff schedules.
  • Organize special events including transportation, waiver forms and entrance fees.
  • Order day camp staff uniforms.
  • Purchase supplies as required.
  • Prepare programs summary report and submits to the Supervisor, Community Programs by August 27, 2026, to include budget, attendance, program highlights, recommendations for next year, parent and camp participant feedback, incident reports.
  • Ensure all supplies, materials and inventory used during summer camps have been returned to their original locations in a disinfected and organized manner.
  • Carry out any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • University or College student with studies in Recreation, Education, Child and Youth Worker or Social Services area- minimum 1 year of post-secondary education is required.
  • Computer expertise in corporate standard software (Microsoft), and recreation based software systems.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR Level C (if hired, must be obtained by May 19, 2026).
  • HIGH FIVE – Principles of Healthy Child Development; Principles in Action; Healthy Mind, Health Child (if hired, must be obtained by May 19, 2026).
  • Valid province of Ontario Class “G” license and access to a reliable vehicle including the ability to provide a drivers abstract when requested during the recruitment process.
  • Excellent customer service and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of the programs offered by Norfolk County.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, accept and follow verbal and written instructions, complete duties to an acceptable level of quantity and quality with minimal supervision and follow all of Norfolk County Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively.
  • Must a reliable team player, able to work with and without direct supervision.
  • Must be motivated, hardworking individual able to work outside in all weather (hot, dusty, cold and wet).
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Note:

Must be willing to work weekends, evenings and holidays.

Employment is conditional upon: attendance at all training sessions, submission of required documentation/certification, adherence to the minimum age requirements and ability to meet the employment term.

At time of application must be enrolled in a post-secondary education institution or institution of higher learning.
