This position leads a team of Safety and Health Consultants assigned to a specific geographic region within the State of Florida. Safety and Health Consultants play a critical role in assisting small employers by promoting safe and healthy workplace practices. Under the general direction of the Program Director, the incumbent is responsible for planning and organizing work assignments for both themselves and their team to ensure that program goals and objectives are achieved. This role requires a high level of technical expertise in occupational safety and health to provide expert consultation and compliance assessments aimed at identifying and correcting workplace hazards in accordance with Federal OSHA regulations. The consultant must exercise discretion and independent judgment when working with small businesses to develop customized, practical solutions that improve or establish effective safety and health programs—ultimately reducing workplace injuries, illnesses, and fatalities. Success in this position also depends on the ability to effectively develop and deliver both formal and informal safety and health training and educational outreach to a wide range of audiences, including employers, employees, internal staff, the public, industry alliances, and other stakeholders across the state.
Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a Physical science, Engineering or related field, with 4+ years experience in a safety and health consultation or inspection-related position. Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree.
Preferred Qualifications: A master’s degree in industrial Hygiene and certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) are Preferred.
This position frequently requires climbing, lifting moderately heavy items, such as storage containers. On an inspection, incumbent is required to wear a hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard toe shoes. Uses measuring instruments to determine air quality and noise levels, and equipment to evaluate electrical, trenching, and machine-guarding hazards.
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree. 6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.
