The Gallery Assistant will support the Langley Arts Council’s Curator and Gallery Coordinator in implementing, improving, and expanding the Art in Found Spaces and Gallery Exhibition Program.

This position is offered in collaboration with Culture Canada Works. To be eligible, students must meet all of the following requirements:

• Registered as a student in a recognized Canadian institution
• Legally allowed to work in Canada according to BC laws and regulations
• Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person granted refugee protection under law

• Answer phone calls and direct inquiries
• Provide general support to visitors, members, and volunteers
• Communicate with clients, customers, members, staff, and supervisors
• Curate and organize exhibitions in the Arts Council’s gallery spaces
• Develop exhibition concepts, select artworks, determine placement, and create engaging displays
• Support artists and contributors through the exhibition process
• Write exhibition texts or labels for visitor context and interpretation
• Maintain and update the Programming and Exhibitions filing system
• Assist in coordinating opening receptions and artist talks
• Manage display setups and handle sales transactions
• Document and catalog exhibited items, including label creation and attaching identifying information
• Collaborate with the Events and Arts Coordinators to develop educational programs around exhibitions
• Prepare and distribute promotional materials
• Collect visitor feedback and compile reports on attendance and engagement
• Brainstorm future exhibition ideas with team members
• Attend meetings, training sessions, and workshops
• Create honorarium letters for photographers, artists, jurors, etc.
• Adhere to health and safety guidelines to ensure safety during exhibitions

• Excellent internal and external communication skills
• Team player with initiative and ability to follow direction
• Knowledge of art practices and art history
