At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, more than 80 000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Join us as Structural Integrity Lead Engineer, and you’ll be engaged in a career-defining role by participating to the design and the structural validation of passenger railroad vehicles.

As a member of the structural design team, you will:

  • Produce component qualification and validation plans in accordance with technical specifications, internal guidelines, and applicable standards.
  • Develop the vibration control plan for rail vehicles and participate in the requirements management process by reviewing and deriving vibration control specifications for chassis, bogies, and systems.
  • Create and verify finite element models of rail vehicle components.
  • Perform mechanical calculation activities including stress analysis with linear and nonlinear materials, fatigue life estimation, evaluation of bolted and welded assemblies, deflection and stability analysis, modal analysis, and frequency response analysis.
  • Assume the expertise for vibration related issues, realize frequency response analyses, determine fatigue damage resulting from random vibration excitation, perform mobility computations to evaluate structure born noise criteria.
  • Guide component design and suggest improvements to optimize functionality, weight, and manufacturability based on calculation results.
  • Write mechanical calculation reports according to project schedule.
  • Present and explain the results to the client.
  • Participate in design reviews with internal and external clients.
  • Prepare specifications for qualification tests, participate in on-site testing, review data, and write reports.
  • Support various project activities such as stage reviews, risk assessments, budget estimates, etc.

We are looking for candidates with the following profile:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, preferably with a focus on mechanical vibration analysis.
  • Member of the OIQ, engineer or candidate to the engineering profession (CPE).
  • Knowledge of Finite Element Method with experience in using specialized software such as Hyperwork.
  • Theoretical bases in material strength calculation, and mastery of assembly analysis methodologies. Experience in the transport sector is an asset.
  • Capable of performing advanced vibration calculations, such as response to a random excitation spectrum, structural mobility calculations.
  • Self-driven, structured, and organized with a practical and systematic approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including with third parties (clients).
  • Team player who enjoys learning and sharing new knowledge.
  • Ability to multitask in a matrix and project-oriented organisation.
  • Functional French, professional proficiency in English.

Alstom offers a learning environment in which you will develop your knowledge and skills with highly competent and experienced professionals. Many formal trainings will be provided throughout your career, especially during your first year of employment. You will also have the opportunity to visit and work at some of our manufacturing sites located in North America.

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
