Are you the one we are looking for

We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Youth Worker who demonstrates our values of compassion, accountability, responsiveness and empowerment to our clients, families and each other.

Wesley Youth Housing is a multi-stage housing program for youth 16-21 years old who are experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of homelessness. The program provides an individualized and strengths-based approach with each young person to help them achieve their goals of independent living.

The Youth Worker is an integral part of the Wesley Youth Housing Family. With youth engagement, safety programming and wellness on the brain, youth workers support young people and the team to ensure that youth are reaching their full potential and have access to all necessary supports and resources!

This position is a unionized permanent full-time role. Rate of pay is $20.50 per hour plus overnight premium ($0.50). This is an alternating day / night schedule covering 12-hour daytime shifts on weekends (7am-7pm) and overnight shifts on Monday and Tuesdays (11pm-7am).

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish a positive rapport with youth by being friendly, non-judgmental, non-intrusive and approachable.
  • Oversee the 19 unit program and residents, handling issues that may arise.
  • Engage youth in a meaningful way, providing solution-focused counseling, case management services, information, support and advocacy.
  • Ensure safety of the team and safety of all program participants, including entry to program.
  • Manage crises as they may arise.
  • Complete household cleaning responsibilities as required.
  • Participate in staff development and team meetings.
  • Complete statistics, client files, daily log and other administrative documentation as required.
  • Maintain awareness of other social service agencies in the Hamilton Region and knowledge of legislation affecting the target population.
  • Ensure accurate case coordination and updated client files; raise challenging cases/concerns at unit meetings with Manager and/or case conferencing, with disclosures on file and adherence to legislation.
What you will bring
  • Minimum of C.Y.W. or S.S.W. diploma.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with street-involved/homeless youth.
  • Experience working in a residential setting is an asset.
  • Commitment to a flexible work schedule which includes overnight and weekend hours.
  • Non-violent crisis intervention, First aid/ CPR training, ASIST certification.
