A leading Canadian university in Toronto is seeking a Writing Instructor for ECE496Y, a full-year course for fourth-year engineering students. This role involves attending oral presentations and providing feedback as well as participating in orientation meetings. Ideal candidates have a Master's degree in a relevant field, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to teaching. Course description: ECE496Y is a full-year course required for all fourth-year electrical and computer engineering students, allowing them to integrate the knowledge acquired over the first three years of study in the planning and execution of project proposed either by the student or by a supervisor.

Number of Positions (est): One (1) position
Class schedule: Students attend an introductory lecture and one or two subsequent lectures. Otherwise, students work in teams, meeting with their supervisors and administrators on an individually determined schedule.
Sessional dates of appointment: January 19, 2026 to April 30, 2026
Hours: Up to 12 hours.
Salary: CUPE minimum salary rates are: Writing Instructor 1 - $55.46/hr plus 4% vacation pay; Writing Instructor 1 Long Term - $59.62/hr plus 4% vacation pay; Writing Instructor 2 - $59.62/hr plus 6% vacation pay; Writing Instructor 2 Long Term - $61.05/hr plus 6% vacation pay; Writing Instructor 2 (priority) - $61.38/hr plus 6% vacation pay and Writing Instructor 2 (priority) Long Term- $62.82/hr plus 6% vacation pay. Should rates stipulated in the Collective Agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the Collective Agreement shall prevail.
Minimum Qualifications: include at least a Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline (such as, but not limited to, Communication, English, Engineering, Education, Technology Studies) with strong written and oral communication skills, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching communication and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications: include a PhD in an appropriate discipline (as above), familiarity with engineering communication practices and/or training in second-language instruction at the university level and/or experience as an instructor in first year foundation course, Engineering Strategies and Practice. Also considered assets are experience in curriculum development, tutoring and/or working with a diverse group of students.
