Who we're looking for:

We’re looking for a Part-time Writer able to find and develop original and compelling story ideas to help us bring stories and content that matter most to the Italian Canadian community all over Canada.

What you'll do:

  • Pitch fresh and original stories
  • Edit, report, and voice stories for both our newscast and digital media
  • Organize material and write engaging, relevant, and concise news stories under tight deadlines according to prescribed editorial style and format standards
  • Interview politicians, experts, and members of the Italian Canadian community across the country
  • Translate and repackage stories from various news sources
  • Generate compelling story ideas and maintain knowledgeable contacts, responding quickly and accurately to breaking news
  • Create compelling multimedia content
  • Stay fluent in social media trends, using personal accounts to generate stories and ideas
  • Host the newscast, becoming a face of our news and helping build a strong relationship with viewers
  • Contribute to building a reliable and appealing national newscast reflecting our diverse communities

What you bring:

  • Proven experience in journalism and media
  • Ability to work in a team and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in creating powerful, original stories
  • Understanding of multi-platform coverage
  • Knowledge of Toronto and Canadian cultural and political landscapes
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to generate original content ideas consistently
  • Availability to work on weekends and statutory holidays
  • Fluency in Italian (oral and written) and professional proficiency in English (oral and written)

Additional Information:

A pre-employment background check is required, including criminal background check. Depending on the role, a credit check and driver’s abstract may also be necessary.
