Overview

We are seeking an energetic, safety-focused, and personable Whitewater Raft Guide to lead guests on river trips ranging from beginner-friendly floats to challenging whitewater runs. The ideal candidate is an experienced paddler with strong leadership skills, excellent communication, and a passion for the outdoors.

Responsibilities
  • Safely guide commercial rafting trips on Class I–IV rivers, depending on certification and company requirements.
  • Deliver thorough pre-trip safety briefings, including paddling techniques, emergency procedures, and river etiquette.
  • Operate rafts, paddles, and gear in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct ongoing risk assessments based on river conditions, weather, and group ability.
  • Assist guests with gear fitting (e.g., PFDs, helmets, wetsuits) and ensure proper use.
  • Provide engaging, informative, and enjoyable interpretation of the river, local environment, and wildlife.
  • Manage group dynamics, maintain positive guest interactions, and handle difficult situations calmly.
  • Perform river rescue techniques if necessary.
  • Load, unload, clean, and maintain equipment, including rafts, paddles, throw bags, and vehicles.
  • Participate in guide meetings, training sessions, and certifications.
  • Uphold all federal, state, and company safety regulations.
Qualifications
  • Prior whitewater experience in paddle-guiding or oar-rig guiding (requirements vary by river).
  • Swiftwater Rescue Technician (SRT) certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • First Aid/CPR certification required; Wilderness First Responder (WFR) a plus.
