Position: WATER TECHNICIAN

Starting Range: $ 28.11- $ 30.99

Location: Garden River First Nation, Water Department 7 Shingwauk Street

POSITION SUMMARY

Garden River First Nation administers a variety of programs and services. Various department managers oversee their individual programs, and overall administrative duties are overseen by a Chief Administrative Officer who is directly responsible to the Council who in turn, are responsible to the membership.

Garden River First Nation is looking for a The Water Technician who will be responsible for managing the safety and quality of water resources. This role involves monitoring and testing water quality, identifying any issues or problems, and implementing corrective measures. A Water Technician also be responsible for maintaining water treatment systems, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and communicating with stakeholders such as customers and government agencies.

What you will do:

  • Responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing water systems and equipment, such as pipes, pumps, valves, and tanks
  • Conduct tests on water to ensure it meets quality and safety standards
  • Inspect and maintain equipment used in water treatment plants
  • Perform maintenance tasks on water treatment equipment
  • Advice on water safety and health regulations
  • Recommend improvements to existing water treatment systems
  • Compliance and reporting

What you can bring to the role:

  • Highschool Diploma Required
  • 2-year college diploma in related field preferred
  • 1 year experience preferred
  • Knowledge of plumbing and drainage systems
  • Willing to obtain 80 hours of training per year by attending workshops about water treatment
  • Ability to be on call 7 days a week and 24 hours a day
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of First Nation culture, values, and traditions
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn Indigenous cultural safety and reconciliation principles
