Your Opportunity

Our British Columbia Water Business Center is are seeking a Water Resources/Hydrotechnical Team Lead. This dual-role position offers the opportunity to lead a high-performing team while contributing business development, technical and project management expertise to complex and exciting projects. You will play a key role in shaping project outcomes, mentoring staff, and driving strategic growth in the region.

In this role, you will provide operational leadership, foster team culture, and support staff development. As a practitioner, you will work independently and collaboratively on multidisciplinary projects, serving as a technical lead, project manager, and business developer.

Your Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
  • Lead and manage a team of engineers and technical staff within the Water group.
  • Oversee staff performance, including goal setting, feedback, and annual reviews.
  • Manage staff resourcing and project workload balancing across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Identify staffing needs and participate in recruitment and onboarding processes.
  • Assess training and development requirements and support professional growth opportunities.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance team culture.
  • Collaborate with other team leads and discipline leads to ensure effective resource planning and operational alignment.
Project Delivery & Technical Excellence
  • Oversee projects with varying degree of complexity, performing technical design tasks and providing guidance to team members.
  • Serve as Engineer-of-Record on water resources projects.
  • Lead project coordination meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control reviews on own and peer projects.
Client & Business Development
  • Perform client account management and development duties to grow the business.
  • Support marketing and business development professionals in positioning for potential projects, assisting/writing proposals, participating in client interviews, and supporting negotiations for project contracts in British Columbia.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, and design approaches for projects of varying size and complexity.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing teams and mentoring staff.
  • Strong project management and technical lead capabilities across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Deep understanding of hydrotechnical and water resources engineering, design and construction methods, codes, and standards.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; knowledge and understanding of HEC-RAS hydraulic modelling software.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil, Hydrotechnical or related engineering discipline.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of British Columbia (or eligible for EGBC registration).
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in the industry.
Work Environment

Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. As a People Leader, you will be expected to work from the office a minimum of 3 days per week.

Pay Range
  • Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC & Various locations in Ontario-$105,400.00 - $158,100.00 Annually
  • Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$111,700.00 - $167,600.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
