About the role

As the VP, Finance you will serve as a key leader within the management team and as the financial interface between Finance and the Senior Leadership Team ensuring alignment of corporate goals and long-term financial performance. This role will be critical in elevating the organization with digital and AI enablement tools and capabilities in order to drive company strategy. The position reports to the CFO initially with a rapid career path to Head of Finance and is a member of the Senior Leadership Team. The VP, Finance will have the opportunity to develop core competencies of working in a financial sponsored environment.

The Vision: Unbounce is supported by common, holistic financial and billing tooling, AI enabled processes and workflows. The Finance team is empowered to design and deploy automated workflows in a continuous improvement cadence. Data dashboards produce historical and predictive & prescriptive insights.

What you'll be doing

Leadership: Lead all aspects of financial management, including FP&A, accounting, tax, treasury and legal compliance. Build and lead an engaged and motivated internal service team with an orientation to collaborative decision-making support, lean service excellence and digital and AI enablement. Team design focuses on capabilities versus traditional role and structure, enabling the transition to automation. Maintain credible relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Develop and maintain a trusted partnership with the financial sponsor.

Financial operations and reporting: Responsible for the function (people, process and tools) that delivers seamless financial and operational reporting; ensures financial operations are delivered to industry standard service levels; maintain financial reporting under Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) and potentially IFRS (or US GAAP).

  • Partner with the CEO to identify and execute actions that drive profitable growth, improve operational efficiencies and increase productivity.
  • Working across departments, implement the use of effective digital/AI enablement and operating procedures to drive organizational efficiency starting with the Finance function.
  • Identify risks and opportunities in key operating metrics and the P&L
  • Facilitate a strong internal control environment and drive documentation of key company processes across departments to identify bottlenecks and execute improvements.
  • Lead the FP&A team to monitor financial performance by measuring and analyzing results; initiate corrective actions and minimize the impact of variances
  • Provide departments with timely, accurate, and reliable financial information to track performance and understand revenue and cost drivers.
  • Support external reporting to the Board and other external stakeholders including analyses, commentary and presentation materials for Board meetings
  • Stay up to date with market trends and deepen knowledge of our industry/competitors and collaborate with product, sales and marketing to identify opportunities and build various models to support our strategy
  • Lead implementation of new financial strategies as directed by CFO and CEO

Treasury, Taxation & Risk Management: Manage and execute the global taxation strategy efficiently and effectively with optimized cost management of advisors and other external resources; develop and oversee the execution of the global treasury strategy including maintaining lending relationships; ensure efficient and effective capital deployment in alignment with strategies.

  • With the support of the FP&A team, ensure we have annual and quarterly planning of cashflow and cash management; monitor and optimize against plan
  • Manage all tax planning, compliance, regulatory and statutory reporting for all required (Canada, U.S., and European Union) federal, province/state, local, and payroll taxes.
  • Develop, implement and manage the company insurance strategy

Business planning and analysis: Responsible for a regular cadence of planning and continuous forecasting cycles; ensure all stakeholders have strong visibility into current expectations; support management team by modelling decisions and strategy to set targets, and then track and measure the results.

  • Lead the FP&A team and partner with the corporate leadership team to provide value-added insight into the business,
  • Provide financial modelling, financial analysis and valuation support for acquisitions, long-term contracts and other ad-hoc financial projects

Corporate development: Act as primary coordination point with financial sponsor on deal evaluation, due diligence, deal structure (including tax) and execution. Responsible for post merger integration execution to ensure financial and operational alignment at pace.

A little about you
  • 10+ years of experience in progressively more senior accounting and finance roles including 4+ years at a senior level (VP, CFO or equivalent), including responsibility for managing the operational aspects of finance in a company with over CAD $50M in revenues and global operations.
  • Strong strategic thinking and results orientation with a track record of meeting or exceeding business objectives.
  • Experienced leader with minimum 8 years experience managing a team.
  • Several years (ideally 2-4+) in public accounting with a top tier international firm.
  • Experience in building and leading the financial, processes, automation and rigor for a high growth SaaS company.
  • University degree and professional accounting designation (CPA preferred), with 15+ years post-qualified experience.
  • Knowledge of, and proficiency in finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Solid experience in financial analysis, forecasting and operational planning.
  • Passionate about leveraging technology and experienced in implementing financial software to automate accounting and finance processes to support automation and scale.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication and executive presence that foster confidence and trust across all levels of the organization.
