Overview
Meals on Wheels provides meals to those who are unable to obtain or prepare meals. The daily visit from volunteers is important to clients, helping ease loneliness and providing families with confidence that their loved ones are cared for. This volunteer opportunity is based in Winnipeg.

Responsibilities
- Deliver nutritious meals to Winnipeg's senior citizens, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable community members.
- Provide a friendly face and kind words to individuals who may have limited outside social contact.
- Pickup meals from major hospitals and deliver to approximately 15–18 customers on a predetermined route, then return the equipment to the hospital.
- Choose as few as 1 route per month or as many as 1 route per day; book off with as much notice as possible and remain on hold if not available during certain times of the year.
- Must have a valid driver\'s license and a safe vehicle; deliveries can be done by one person or in pairs (the driver receives the $7.00 honorarium).
- Training is provided as a 45-minute orientation at the office, with a staff member accompanying new volunteers on their first route.
Skills / Qualifications
- Patience and understanding when delivering to people from diverse backgrounds at various life and health stages.
- Commitment to make every reasonable effort to deliver each meal to each customer.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations (customer issues, traffic, construction, parking).
- Ability to lift approximately 20 pounds.
- Ability to work cooperatively with Meals on Wheels staff and volunteers.
- Ability to respect the confidentiality of clients and volunteers.
- Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+.
- Time Commitment: Daytime.
Time Commitment
As few as one 2-hour route per month to as many as one 2-hour route per day, between 10:30 am and 1:00 pm, Monday–Friday.

Organization Support / Training
- Organization will provide: A letter of reference; Certificate of recognition; Supervision
- Training / Orientation: 7.00 honorarium per route (paid quarterly by cheque or annual tax-deductible donation)
