Job Overview

In this role, the Project Manager is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of specific projects under the Substations and Projects department. Projects vary in size, complexity and scope and may require a tailored project management solution.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the day‑to‑day operations to directly plan, execute and control operational aspects of ongoing projects (engineering, procurement, scheduling, project reports, material tracking & shipping, invoicing, construction activities, transmittals/submittals, change order requests, etc.) and proactive planning and close out.
  • Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
  • Ensure project documents are complete and current and overall proper financial management.
  • Determine milestones, track revenue recognition, ensure timely and accurate invoicing, and monitor receivables.
  • Analyze and report on project success measures such as profitability, revenue, margins, bill rates and utilization.
  • Liaise with subcontractors, construction managers, project engineers, field construction managers, supervisors and owner.
  • Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with vendors and suppliers; monitor, manage and negotiate contracts and agreements for reliable service and cost effectiveness.
  • Ensure full compliance with all health, safety and environment procedures and legal requirements.
  • Stakeholder communication including formal reporting on project progress, milestone attainment and organizational change management.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Minimum five (5) years of project management experience in construction or a related industry.
  • Relevant post‑secondary education in Engineering, Project Management or Engineering Technologies. Equivalent trade certification with project management experience is also considered.
  • High‑voltage industry experience involving substations and heavy civil construction strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage engineering, procurement and construction works, including contract management.
  • Professional project management designation or evidence of progress toward one is an asset.
  • Proficient with Project Management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Office including MS Project).
  • Proficient use of Sage Enterprise cost management software.
  • Strong understanding of project lifecycle stages and their application.
  • Highly organized with excellent prioritization skills and ability to multitask and handle tight deadlines.
  • Risk management theory and techniques for measuring and managing project risk.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability are key attributes of this position.
