Overview

Chorus Niagara is seeking a dynamic, passionate, and skilled Training and Intermediate Choir Conductor for Chorus Niagara Children’s Choir (CNCC). The successful candidate will work collaboratively with CNCC’s Principal Conductor to create an engaging learning environment for young singers and should be an experienced conductor/music educator of young children, ages 3-9, who is passionate about helping children to develop a love of music and singing. They will work closely with the Principal Conductor to execute rehearsal plans, and short term and long term objectives and goals for the choirs.

Responsibilities
  • Artistic Leadership: Plan and conduct weekly rehearsals for CNCC’s Training and Intermediate Choirs, through effective and age-appropriate teaching methods.
  • Assist the Principal Conductor with selecting repertoire for these choirs.
  • Prepare the Training and Intermediate choirs for performances, including concerts, community events, and collaborations with Chorus Niagara.
  • Assist and collaborate with the conductor(s) of Concert and Chamber choirs.
  • Lead the choir in 2–3 annual concerts and additional engagements as scheduled.
  • Program Development: Assist with developing and executing a curriculum that enhances musical literacy, vocal technique, and ensemble skills in order that young singers thrive artistically and personally.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Report to CNCC’s Principal Conductor and CN’s Managing Director and work closely with CN’s Administrator.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, caregivers, and choir members, informing them of schedules, expectations, and events.
  • Collaborate on projects and additional events on the schedule in partnership with the Chamber and Concert Choirs and other children’s choirs in Southern Ontario.
  • Represent CNCC within the broader CN organization and in the community.
  • Administrative Duties: Work closely with the Chorus Niagara administrative team on program logistics.
  • Create and update weekly rehearsal notes.
  • Utilize Google Drive to provide choristers with practice materials.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Degree in music with a preference for those with early music education experience or specialization.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting children’s or youth choirs, with strong pedagogical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect with, motivate and inspire young singers.
  • Proficiency in selecting diverse and developmentally appropriate repertoire is considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all participants.
  • Strong collaborative spirit and the ability to work effectively with staff, parents, and community partners.
Compensation and Hours

This is a contract position (renewed annually) with compensation between $8,000- $10,000.

Estimated 6-10 hours per week. This is inclusive of weekly Wednesday evening rehearsals, concerts and additional events.
