Overview

The Top Drive Technician is responsible for the day-to-day duties of regular maintenance of Top Drives, studying specific problems, and taking corrective actions to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain PD Top Drives.

Day in the Life
  • Reading diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures
  • Operating rig equipment and dollies to place heavy machinery and parts
  • Fitting bearings, aligning gears and shafts, attaching motors
  • Align and test equipment, making any necessary adjustments
  • Performing preventive and operational maintenance and repairing or replacing defective parts when necessary
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the field personnel for the inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of Top Drives
  • Maintain standard inspection and repair procedures for the Top Drives
  • Ensure that proper fuels, lubricants, pressures, power, and parts are used on the equipment
  • Participating in on-call and overtime as required, with regular travel to field locations
What we need from you
  • A high school diploma is required
  • Must have a valid vehicle operations license (abstract required)
  • 5-7 years' experience working with drilling rig equipment
  • Ability to multitask, find solutions, and establish priorities
  • Have a sound knowledge of mechanical/electrical systems
  • Have the physical strength required to work with heavy equipment
  • Exemplary safety skills, both written and verbal
