Job description
Position Description

A temporary full time (1.0) SEL/Connect Ed 10 Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027. The assignment will be at the Energetic Learning Campus.

The Energetic Learning Campus (ELC) is located within a ‘community hub’, which is the Pomeroy Sports Center, approximately a kilometre from main campus. Students at the ELC have access to sporting facilities within the Pomeroy Sport Centre for physical fitness and projects that could incorporate fitness, science, math and humanities as part of a Project Based Learning model. Qualifications And Experience
  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects at the secondary level
  • Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills
  • Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning. Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging
  • Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn
  • Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning
  • Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro–active and maintain student dignity
  • Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity
  • Flexibility to adjust to other course assignments as dictated by course demands (minimum requirements of a minor in a teachable subject at the secondary level as recognized by the BC Ministry of Education)
  • Experience working with students who are experiencing social/emotional/behavioural and learning difficulties would be an asset.
  • Ability to work with staff in connecting with feeder schools for transitioning grade 9's to North Peace Secondary School
  • Ability to make connections with students
  • Ability to continue with adjusting the transition plan to best suit students and parents
  • Ability to work with databases and spreadsheets
  • Ability to deliver information through social media and different technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative in utilizing teaching strategies that meet the needs of students
  • Be willing to learn and utilize computers in the instructional process and reporting procedure
  • Flexibility to adjust to other course assignments as dictated by course demands (minimum requirements of a minor in a teachable subject at the secondary level as recognized by the BC Ministry of Education)
  • Experience in program design and implementation
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, work with and assist students who are experiencing difficulties
  • Ability to supervise and schedule support workers
  • Experience and knowledge of team dynamics involved in a professional and productive learning community
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have training or experience teaching in a core subject area at the secondary level
  • Ability to work collaboratively to develop programs to develop social skills, self-esteem, anger and anxiety management, bullying prevention and coping with peer pressure
  • Experience with Function Analysis of Behaviour, Behaviour Intervention Plans
  • Ability to develop and maintain IEP's in consultation with school based teams and outside agencies
  • Preference will be given to the candidate with Social/Emotional (SEL) teaching experience
  • Commitment to participate in collaboration meetings as dictated by student needs, outside agencies and learning support departments

Compensation
  • $2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
  • $3, 035 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $65,397 - $111,952
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enrol in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
