Technician, Irrigation — Job location: Onsite Bradford, ON. Employment type: Full Time Permanent Employment. Hours: 40 Hours per week. Salary: $23 CAD to start.

Job summary

Reporting to the Supervisor, the Irrigation Technician is responsible for executing the daily activities within the Irrigation department at a highly productive and efficient pace to achieve the weekly objectives. This role is responsible for a variety of duties surrounding the irrigation schedules to maintain consistent plant health and product quality as instructed by leadership.

Main responsibilities

• Creating and adjusting irrigation strategies based on plant health and irrigation requirements via PRIVA
• Mixing nutrients according to guidelines/policies
• Adjusting and monitoring climate setpoints through PRIVA
• Tracking irrigations and nutrient solution specifications
• Performing media runoff samples
• Maintaining various irrigation equipment and sensors
• Scouting for pests
• Perform pesticide and other chemical applications
• Maintain documents, forms and logs in accordance with Health Canada regulations and QMS standards
• Where applicable, must adhere to Aurora\'s SOPs and comply with Health Canada’s Cannabis Act. In addition, must adhere to all ISO requirements and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
• Communicate with other departments to ensure timely & effective operations, including facility maintenance
• Recognize unsafe conditions and practices and make corrections to prevent injuries and product loss
• Support in all areas of operating irrigation systems, including general maintenance and sanitation
• Position details and activities may change from time to time in order to meet operational needs
• Weekend and holiday work on a rotating basis
• Other duties as required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

1. Proficient understanding of irrigation system operation, maintenance, and repair techniques
2. Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams related to irrigation systems
3. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in diagnosing and addressing irrigation system issues
4. Familiarity with safety protocols, regulations, and best practices in irrigation system operations

Education & Experience

• Previous greenhouse or horticulture experience is an asset
• Knowledge of irrigation systems and irrigation equipment is an asset
• Experience using climate/irrigation control systems (Priva, Argus, or Hoogendoorn) is an asset
• Pesticide spraying license is an asset
• Mechanically inclined and able to work with tools
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• Intermediate computer skills in MS Office

Working conditions

• Comfortable working with Cannabis
• Physical effort is required, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 30 lbs
• Ability to work weekends, holidays and after hours as required
• Repetitive use of hands, wrists and forearms
• Comfortable working with step ladders (i.e. step ladder/single sided step ladder)
• Must be able to wear proper PPE (jump suits, safety glasses, hair nets, etc.)

This role is in one of Aurora’s Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certified plants and works directly with products. Towards the end of the recruitment process, we require that you undergo a medical screening exam with our third-party vendor.
