SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Technical Sales Associate is a member of our Local Sales & Services team that provides an in-person and telephone service to customers, responding to enquiries, processing sales, and generating quotations to meet customer-specific needs. As a team member, the individual will participate in sales planning and other departmental activities to enable the achievement of departmental targets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparing quotations and following up with customers to confirm sales.
  • Preparing sales orders and coordinating materials requirements to facilitate timely project execution.
  • Liaising with customers to facilitate Change Orders, resolve problems, and provide ongoing support where required to avoid project delays.
  • Updating and maintaining customer records.
  • Providing technical support on hardware and related services and assisting with defining hardware specifications.
  • Identifying opportunities for add-ons, and up-selling/cross-selling our full range of products and services to customers.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • High school diploma.
  • Door Hardware Technician (DHT) or comparable certification.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a technical sales or related position, preferably in the Doors & Hardware industry.
  • Excellent knowledge of hardware, wood doors, hollow metal frames & doors.
  • The ability to read blueprints and specifications.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is preferred.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong negotiating skills with an appreciation of cost and budget control.
  • Mastery of MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and SAGE 300 or other order entry systems.
  • Excellent customer relationship management and teamwork skills to bring all projects to a successful close.
  • Strong planning and organizing skills, with a keen eye for detail.

WORK CONDITIONS:

This position requires:

  • Extensive computer use and may involve extended periods of sitting.
  • Significant relationship management with internal and external stakeholders.
