Overview

Team Lead – Mining Environment and Water Resources at Stantec — lead a multidisciplinary Environmental Services team across Quebec offices (St-Laurent, Montreal, Quebec City, Abitibi, Trois-Rivières, or Chicoutimi). Reporting to the Operations Director, you will manage and allocate your team’s resources for project execution, guide and grow a highly skilled team, and ensure projects meet and exceed client expectations.

Our Quebec practice employs about 1,600 people across 15 offices, committed to a healthy, inclusive, and flexible work environment. This role supports projects in the Mining Environment and / or Water Resources fields, including hydrogeology, hydrology, technical report preparation, government permitting support, and participation in multidisciplinary projects.

Responsibilities
  • Manage service activities and resources in line with applicable policies, standards, and procedures, and according to objectives set with the service director and technical directors.
  • Ensure balanced workloads across a team of about ten people in Montreal and other offices in the province.
  • Supervise, review, and evaluate the work of project managers, specialists, and other professionals in collaboration with technical directors.
  • Plan and monitor projects based on constraints, budgets, and timelines, supporting project managers.
  • Support the team in achieving billability targets.
  • Assess team training needs and recommend development programs to the service director.
  • Act as both project manager and quality reviewer.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and occasionally travel for short durations (e.g., client meetings, field visits).
  • Contribute to preparing service proposals.
Your Background
  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s is an asset) in engineering, geology, or related fields to mining environment and / or water resources.
  • Minimum of 10 years of involvement in mining sector projects.
  • Experience in a team leadership role is an asset.
Keys to Success
  • Strong management and mentoring skills, good organizational and planning abilities.
  • Experience in personnel management.
  • English proficiency is an asset to facilitate collaboration with internal teams outside Quebec or with clients.
  • Experience in consulting services or deep understanding of this field in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Experience in planning and executing projects with limited supervision.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in French; ability to communicate effectively in English (asset).
  • Project management skills (scheduling, HR, budgeting, etc.).
  • Project experience in the mining sector and strong knowledge of federal and provincial regulations.
