Role Overview
The Senior Systems Testing / QA Specialist will lead testing activities for initiatives under the Land & Resources Cluster, including projects related to the Government of Ontario s Bill 5, Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act 2025. The resource will design and implement test strategies, coordinate testing processes, ensure compliance with standards (including AODA), and provide assurance of software quality across complex enterprise applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of test strategies, plans, scenarios, scripts, and procedures.
- Coordinate test activities with project managers, developers, and stakeholders.
- Contribute a QA / testing perspective across project activities including development, integration, and deployment.
- Define and plan test levels, cycles, incident management, and exit criteria.
- Execute hands-on testing for cloud-based Java applications (JSON, RESTful Web Services, HTML5).
- Perform full software development lifecycle (SDLC) testing across Agile, Hybrid, and Waterfall methodologies.
- Document and manage defects through structured defect tracking and reporting.
- Provide input to test automation strategy and develop automation scripts.
- Select and manage testing tools, environments, and related training for testers.
- Develop test summary reports and recommend improvements based on results.
- Ensure compliance with AODA accessibility standards through testing and related tools.
- Support the adoption of testing best practices and mentor junior QA team members.
Mandatory Technical Skills & Experience (70%)
- 8+ years of QA testing experience using Agile, Hybrid, and Waterfall SDLC methodologies.
- Strong experience testing cloud-based Java technologies (JSON, RESTful APIs, HTML5).
- Expertise in SQL for supporting testing activities.
- Experience with AODA testing and related accessibility tools.
- Strong background in project management and QA approaches.
- Working knowledge of Azure DevOps, Postman, and test management software tools.
- Ability to design and develop automation test scripts.
- Proven experience in developing and executing comprehensive test plans, strategies, and documentation.
Soft Skills & Experience (15%)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to liaison effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.
- Strong understanding of business and technical requirements for test scope coverage.
- Effective time and work management skills to meet project deadlines.
Desirable Technical Skills & Experience (10%)
- Experience with soil management information systems.
- Knowledge of GIS spatial datasets.
- Familiarity with Python scripting.
- Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
Public Sector Experience (5%)
- Prior QA / testing experience within the Ontario Public Sector (OPS) or other government environments is an asset.
Additional Notes
- The consultant will follow a hybrid work model (3 days onsite in Guelph or GTA office locations, 2 days remote; may be up to 5 days onsite as directed).
