Job description

This post is an exciting enhancement of the existingmulti-disciplinary community eating disorder service with a specific focus onalternatives to admission. The team will work closely alongside the existingteam and the successful candidates will have the chance to be a part of thedevelopment of this innovative specialist pathway of care for service users inNorth East Lincolnshire. The team will provide a package of enhanced mealtimesupport and intensive work with young people and families, usually within theirown home with the aim being to prevent hospital admissions or shorten them ifthey are deemed necessary.

Main duties of the job

The mainelements of the clinical work will include supporting service users and theirfamilies (when appropriate) during mealtimes in a variety of settings, butmainly in the family home, using an evidence-based model and care pathway,completing physical health checks and supporting the MDT to deliver anintensive package of support to service users and their families.

Thepost holder may also support co-facilitation of support groups, training andassessments alongside senior members of staff.

Job responsibilities

Thepost-holder will work with all members of staff within Rharian FieldsSpecialist Community Eating Disorder Service.

They willwork in close liaison with health and social care professionals in statutoryand non-statutory agencies to facilitate and deliver a range of services toensure that continuing care needs of service users are met.

Promote andimplement creative ways of working with service users.

- Instigate,develop, and maintain a relationship with the service user and/or carer tofacilitate the accurate delivery of care

- Facilitate physicalhealth clinics or support groups and at times complete clinical sessions whensenior staff are not available.

Attendappropriate training as identified in supervision, e.g., reflective practice,handover, appraisal and provide feedback to the team on training.

Maintain andupdate skills/knowledge relevant to the post and ensure practice is evidencebased.

Attend andparticipate in team and clinical meetings as required.

Accruespecialist knowledge and training, gained through formal training andexperience, relating to mental and physical health and apply this knowledgewhen delivering care to service users.

Contributeto discussions in relation to decisions about the range of options fortreatment and care plans based on judgement of service users need.

Participatein the assessments and reviews of both service users and carers in line withteam operational policies.

Person Specification
Knowledge
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic computer skills and indicates a willingness to be trained on the current, Service User electronic records used.
  • Able to communicate concisely both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience or training in customer care or dealing with the public indicating an ability to engage people.
  • Able to organise own workload according to service user and service need.
  • Able to work independently and use own initiative.
  • Experience in clinical skills such as blood pressure, calculating BMI and venepuncture.
  • NVQ training or equivalent in customer care
  • Ability to involve service users actively in planning and evaluating their care plan/package that promotes their independence and physical and mental health.

Qualifications
  • Social/Health Care qualifications (including NVQ level 3 Care, Promoting Independent Living) and/or equivalent and willingness to work towards relevant qualification.
  • Qualification, experience or training specific to the management of Eating Disorders and their comorbidities.
  • Managing behavioural, psychological and general physical health symptoms.
Experience
  • Work experience in Social/Health care (including housing support, welfare rights or equivalent).
  • Experience of working with people experiencing mental health issues.
  • Experience in providing support to people in the community.
