Overview

Supply Paraprofessionals (Educational Assistants/Child and Youth Workers) All Schools. Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) serves approximately 65,000 students in 123 schools, as well as alternative and continuing education sites. WRDSB is committed to creating learning environments that support the achievement and well-being of all students through partnering with staff, parents, families, caregivers and communities to promote success in learning and life. The Waterloo Region District School Board is currently seeking applications for ‘‘Supply Paraprofessionals (Educational Assistants/Child and Youth Workers)’’. Supply Paraprofessionals will work under the supervision of the Administrator at the school that they have accepted the assignment for and receive direction from the teacher(s) at that site. Supply Paraprofessionals may be required to support students with a variety of special needs. This work includes providing support for the behavior, safety, medical and physical needs of a student. A condition of employment as an EA/CYW with the Waterloo Region District School Board requires that one must pass a Physical Demands test. All job offers will be conditional on the candidate passing all components of this test. This applies to any EA/CYW that does not already have Permanent/LTO level D hours. Successful candidates for the supply position will be working on an “on call” basis from September to June and be willing to complete all aspects of the role.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Educational Assistant qualifications: EA Diploma or equivalent college/university degree in a Child Related field, with experience working with children; or minimum six (6) month diploma/certificate in a child-related discipline with at least one year of related work experience (1224 hours).
• Child and Youth Worker qualifications: CYW/CYC Diploma or equivalent degree in a Child Related field; related credentials such as BMS training are assets.
• Must be willing to complete mandatory BMS Training if not already trained; training provided by the Board with a scheduled date after hiring process.
• Must be physically able to support students with diverse needs (including toileting/lifting) and able to communicate effectively with staff and students.
• Availability on short notice for supply positions.
• Must provide satisfactory criminal background check with vulnerable sector prior to commencement.
• Pass WRDSB physical testing component as a condition of employment.
