Job summary

A leading transport solutions provider in Quebec is seeking an experienced SPQD Engineer. This role involves ensuring that supplier product and process developments meet quality requirements. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in Quality or Engineering and at least 5 years of relevant experience, particularly in the railway industry. Proficiency in both French and English is essential for this position.

Purpose of the Role

The SPQD Engineer ensures that supplier product and process developments meet contract and quality requirements for purchased parts. This role supports project quality activities throughout the product lifecycle, from supplier selection to First Article Inspection (FAI) and handover to serial production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead supplier quality activities for designated commodities across projects.
  • Monitor and validate supplier product/process development against Alstom standards.
  • Define and deploy the Part Approval Process and SPQD cycle.
  • Conduct supplier risk assessments and ensure compliance before “Go Order.”
  • Make Go/No-Go decisions for production and FAI milestones.
  • Coordinate customer FAI when required.
  • Track supplier deliverables via the Supplier Quality Portal (SQP).
  • Drive suppliers to meet FAI Go On Time targets and elevate issues when needed.
  • Evaluate supplier maturity (FMEA, control plans, work instructions).
  • Support resolution of non-conformities and warranty issues until FAI Go.
  • Prepare incoming inspection requirements for first deliveries.
  • Report regularly on project quality status and contribute to continuous improvement (REX, APSYS).
Required Qualifications

Mandatory:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quality, Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in manufacturing, quality, or project roles.
  • Familiarity with supplier qualification standards (ISO, ASME, IRIS).
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation and supplier contracts.
  • Proficiency in SAP or similar ERP systems.
  • Fluent in French & English.
  • Master’s degree in Quality or Engineering.
  • Experience in supplier quality management.
  • Railway industry experience.
  • Expertise in supplier quality processes (development & execution).
  • Knowledge in FRP materials and processes: Familiarity with mechanical properties, thermal performance, and aging characteristics of FRP in interior applications.
  • Surface finish and bonding techniques: Experience with gel coat applications, surface preparation, and adhesive bonding for interior trim and structural components.
  • Tooling and mold validation: Experience in assessing tooling design and mold quality for FRP production.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to train and influence cross‑functional teams.
  • Proactive problem‑solving and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Knowledge of quality tools (PFMEA, control plans, QRQC, 8D, etc.).
