The York Region District School Board is seeking a highly experienced and qualified professional to assume a leadership role overseeing the daily operations and personnel within the Maintenance Centre, overseeing the Landscaping Department and the Warehouse & Courier Services Department. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated supervisory experience, exceptional organizational capabilities, and in-depth knowledge of grounds and field maintenance practices. A proficiency in the operation of heavy equipment and specialized landscaping tools—including chippers, stumpers, and chainsaws—is required, as is familiarity with a variety of tree species. A thorough understanding of Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR) requirements is also essential to ensure regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.
Please note that the specific trade positions reporting to this role may be subject to change in accordance with directives from the Board and evolving operational needs.
In compliance with Board policies and procedures, responsible for the direct supervision of the Maintenance Services staff and the monitoring of contractors required to maintain Board facilities in a safe and efficient operational condition.

Important Information for CUPE 1734 Members:
LA.11.7 Those twelve (12) month employees filling vacancies as a result of their applying to a job posting are to remain twelve (12) months at their position. Ten (10) month employees are to remain in their position until the end of the school year. This requirement can be waived with permission from the Superintendent responsible for Human Resource Services. This does not prevent employees from applying for a position or from applying for a promotion during the twelve (12) month period.
Applicants will be deemed to have the educational qualifications, according to the job description for the classification they are currently in, as per the terms of the current CUPE Local 1734 Collective Agreement. Permanent CUPE 1734 applicants will be considered first in the selection process.
As a health and safety requirement, and in accordance with the Education Act, anyone seeking employment or wanting to volunteer must provide a satisfactory police record check. A Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) must be completed by the police services in the jurisdiction in which you reside, this is based on your home address (only accepted by police services within Canada); must be satisfactory to the YRDSB and completed within six (6) months prior to the scheduled start date. It is the candidates responsibility to provide the results to the Board upon instruction.
We will accept satisfactory PVSCs that name any other school board and other employers (daycare centers, OCT, and employers that would require a police check for vulnerable persons) in Ontario and obtained within the last six (6) months.
