Job summary

A progressive municipal office in Canada is seeking summer student laborers to assist in essential water services. This role includes tasks such as painting fire hydrants, checking service jackets, and aiding in the installation of water meters. Candidates must have a minimum Grade 12 education and be returning to post-secondary school. A Class G2 Ontario Driver’s License is required. This position offers an opportunity to work outdoors contributing to the community while gaining valuable experience.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 completion and returning to post-secondary school required.
  • Must possess a Class G2 Ontario Driver’s License in good standing.
  • Physical ability to perform outdoor labor in varying weather.

Responsibilities

  • Paint fire hydrants and check service jackets.
  • Assist in installation of water meters and services.
  • Support operators with maintenance tasks.

Salary Range: $19.71/hour as per Schedule “A”

Job Summary

Are you looking for a hands‑on role that allows you to get outside? Want to work with a great team and take on new challenges? We’re hiring summer student labourers to help deliver essential services to our community. Help keep our water clean by assisting with a variety of Water Services including locating and checking water service jackets, installing water meters and testing backflows, and repainting fire hydrants.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for painting Fire Hydrants, and checking and measuring service jackets,
  • Assist operators in fire hydrant and valve maintenance,
  • Assist in the installation of water meters,
  • Assist in the installation of water main, water services and fire hydrants which includes excavation, backfilling and restorations,
  • Assist in the enforcement of the City of Woodstock Outside Use watering by‑law,
  • May be required to pick up various materials,
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the Water Distribution Supervisor or Designate
Essential Qualifications
  • Minimum Grade 12 and must be returning to a post‑secondary school,
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions and be physically able to perform duties
  • Must have Class G2 Ontario Driver’s License in good standing
Preferred Qualifications
  • Standard First Aid and CPR training,
  • Experience operating a wide variety of handheld powered equipment,
  • Training with MTO Book 7 for Temporary Conditions, and proven knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable legislation
Working Conditions
  • Scheduled 40-hour workweek, which includes weekends and alternate shift hours,
  • Will be required to work in adverse weather conditions,
  • May be required to work overtime
