Job summary

A local government organization in Whitby is seeking a summer student to assist in urban planning activities. You will support downtown revitalization and cultural events while working collaboratively within the team. Responsibilities
  • working on placemaking opportunities to support downtown revitalization;
  • assisting with cultural pop-up events in public spaces within the community;
  • reviewing planning and development applications specific to downtown development and drafting comments;
  • researching best practices to support culture and downtown initiatives;
  • communication with the business and property owners, committee’s, public and staff;
  • gathering and delivering information and materials;
  • site inspections;
  • data input and analysis;
  • other duties as assigned.

You listen attentively and ask questions for clarification and understanding. Using sound judgment, you demonstrate tact, diplomacy and sound discretion when working with the public.

You’re always happy to learn new things and to help build a working environment that encourages and cultivates new ideas. You foster a collaborative team environment among co‑workers, and work well both independently and as part of a team.

What You Bring To Our Team
  • full‑time student in urban and regional planning or related field of study;
  • relevant experience in a planning, cultural planning and/or research.
Eligibility Requirements

Students selected must be available to commence summer employment as early as April 27, 2026, and commit to working through to, and including, September 4, 2026.

Salary Range/Hourly Rate

$21.14 - $23.53
