Overview

Location: Paris Community Pool and Splash Pad

Reporting to: Aquatics and Active Living Coordinator

Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Certification (NL), Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor, Standard First Aid with CPR C and Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor are mandatory for this position and must be submitted/attached to your application.

Basic Function
  • Work on a casual basis to assist in the implementation of a quality instructional program at the Paris Community Pool & Splash Pad.
  • To provide a safe swimming environment through effective guarding and ensure the facility is well kept at all times by assisting with facility maintenance tasks.
Principle Responsibilities
  • To support the objectives and philosophies of the County of Brant, Aquatics Program as established by the Community and Protective Services Department through quality guarding and instruction and excellent public and staff relations.
  • To display knowledge, skills and abilities which provide competent leadership in specific aquatic activities.
  • To instruct a comprehensive Pool Program as developed by the Community and Protective Services Department to meet the needs of all participants.
  • To be available as a knowledgeable resource to the participants, parents and staff.
  • To ensure patron safety through effective guarding techniques.
  • To provide leadership to Leaders in Training.
Specific Duties
  • To arrive at the facility 15 minutes prior to the start of the programs to set up for the pool users.
  • To ensure the protection and safety of the public that will use the aquatic facilities as regulated.
  • To ensure all required qualifications for the position are kept current and up-to date.
  • To display knowledge, skills and abilities that will qualify the leadership in a specific designated aquatic activity.
  • To teach Lifesaving Society, Swim for Life and Lifesaving programs and all other programs as required.
  • To provide ongoing leadership to the Leaders in Training (L.I.T).
  • To attend and actively participate throughout all in-service staff training programs.
  • To guard during all required swims as scheduled, including but not limited to lane swim, aquatic fitness, public swim, rentals etc.
  • To maintain and complete all lesson plans, worksheets and guarding reports as required.
  • To maintain a good working relationship with County of Brant sponsored programs.
  • To report any potential safety hazards, accidents or problems immediately to the Head Guard and Recreation Coordinator.
  • To assist in the duties outlined by the Recreation Supervisor and Head Guard.
  • Other duties as assigned.
