Job description:

Shield Engineering and Architecture is looking for a motivated an Ontario Licensed P.Eng (strongly preferred) capable of designing, running & managing structural engineering projects.

The candidate must have the following key personal attributes:

The individual would be responsible for the following job tasks:

  • Working with Shield’s clients on a day-to-day basis to ensure projects are meeting the client’s expectations and requirements.
  • Create & manage engineering project proposal and budgets.
  • Work with Shield team to ensure all projects are delivered with the highest level of quality, on schedule, and on budget.
  • Perform various types of structural assessments and inspections on existing client infrastructure and prepare reports providing detailed observations and findings.
  • Perform peer reviews on designs and reports.
  • Assist in the development of junior staff.
  • Create and oversee the development of designs for a variety of structural applications across various market segments served by Shield such as but not limited to:
    • Mining Sector (Surface and Underground)
    • Pulp & Paper
    • Mobile Equipment
    • Hydro Electric Generation
    • Steelmaking
    • Residential
    • Commercial
    • Institutional
    • Others as required
  • Meet with clients (at their sites and online) as required to fulfill project requirements.
  • Promote and develop new business opportunities for Shield. This may include the need to travel to various client sites within the province, nationally, and internationally.

Requirements:

The candidate must have a good working knowledge of designing and reading both structural and/or mechanical drawings as well as the amount of effort required to create them. The candidate would also have a good working knowledge of the following software platforms:

  • Experience designing structural steel and concrete structures for mining or heavy industrial applications
  • Valid Drivers' license
  • Microstation
  • AutoCAD
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Structural analysis software (i.e. STAAD). Any additional design software is a bonus
  • Clear safety record with the ability work on all projects and at all site locations

Schedule: Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate: Greater Sudbury, ON P3E 3E1: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Licence/Certification: Valid P. Eng in Ontario (strongly preferred)

Work Location: In person both at the office and site locations

Physical Requirements: Sit for long periods of time, climb stairs, bending, lift up to 22kg/50 lbs (not regularly).

Work Setting: On-site office setting and offsite work locations. Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely.

Environmental Conditions: The candidate is expected to work within the work environments listed above (mining plants, underground mines, hydroelectric stations, etc.) and work within the safety requirements of Shield and/or the clients requirements. This may include working at heights and confined spaces. Site Specific training will be provided.
