Job description
The Team

At the Kamloops Fire Centre, you\'ll join a dynamic and established team of diverse individuals dedicated to wildfire management and safety. Our team includes Unit crews (22 people) and Initial Attack crews (4, with bases hosting 18–52 members). You\'ll collaborate with professionals in wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery from across the province. The Fire Crew leader plays a critical role in executing fire suppression and hazard plans and ensuring crews are mobilized in incident response. The Role

You will lead crews on the fireline and in day-to-day fieldwork around communities, contributing to keeping these communities safe and resilient. Your work in wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery will have a direct impact across British Columbia. This is a fast-paced, team-based environment where your efforts support the well-being of BC\'s citizens.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Grade 12 or equivalent; OR
  • An equivalent combination of training and education may be considered; AND
  • 2 seasons forest fire related experience;
  • Valid Intermediate First Aid with Transportation endorsement; AND
  • Successful completion of New Recruit Boot Camp or Agency Equivalent; AND
  • Successfully complete pre-employment fitness standard; AND
  • Maintain personal weight standards as required for crew type; AND
  • Valid Class 5 driver\'s license or equivalent.

Note: Intermediate First Aid is the new name for Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level 2. The name change aligns with CSA standards.

Preference may be given to candidates with, or all of, the following:

  • Attended BC Wildfire Provincial Crew Leader training or agency equivalent.
  • Prior Supervisory experience.
  • Prior Fireline Supervisory experience
  • Incident Commander 5 certification or higher (ICS)
  • Previous BC Wildfire Crew Leader experience
  • Single Resource Leader 1 certification or higher.
  • Higher education in Resource Management or related field.
  • Experience delivering education or training to adults.
  • Qualified Faller Assessor/Trainer, Certified Faller, or equivalent.

Willingness Statements

  • Be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments, and corporate structures.
  • Keep current on emerging issues.
  • Take in-house training and certification as required.
  • Fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
  • Work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat, and mountainous terrain in remote locations.
  • Work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
  • Travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary.
  • Participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned.
  • Obtain and maintain certification and training for crew positions to meet operational requirements.
