A government agency in Canada is seeking a Staff Lawyer to provide legal representation to individuals charged with criminal offences. The ideal candidate will have a law degree, be a member of the NWT bar, and have at least one year of experience in criminal law. The mandate of the Department of Justice is to administer justice, including policing, community justice, victims services and corrections in the Northwest Territories. This mandate will be carried out in a manner which respects community and indigenous values and encourages communities to assume increasing responsibilities.
As a Staff Lawyer, you will provide legal advice and representation to individuals arrested and charged with criminal offences. You will play a vital role in protecting and asserting their legal rights and interests, fulfilling obligations under the Charter and the Legal Aid Act.
Employed by the Legal Aid Commission, you will contribute to the Department of Justice's mission to protect and promote the rights and safety of all people in the Northwest Territories through efficient and responsive justice programs and services.
