Reporting to the Manager, Safety, Health, Environment & Emergency (SHE&E), the Environment Specialist is responsible for the effective implementation and management of the site Environmental Program. This includes compliance with the Operating Approval issued by Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP) and other regulatory requirements from agencies such as Environment Canada (EC), Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), and Transport Canada. The role also provides expert guidance to Operations, Maintenance, Projects, and the Environmental Lab team, and participates as a member of the Emergency Operations Centre.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead and manage the site Environmental Program in alignment with Nutrien’s SHE&E policies and applicable regulations.
  • Provide environmental expertise and support to Operations, Maintenance, and Projects, including eMOC/ETQ environmental approvals.
  • Conduct environmental site inspections and ensure ownership of all site Environmental Management System (EMS) documents.
  • Act as CERES subject matter expert for release modelling and MOC support.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports in accordance with AEP, EC, AER, and Transport Canada requirements.
  • Participate in incident investigations, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance environmental performance.
What You'll Bring:
  • Degree in Engineering, Science, or Environmental discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professional designation such as B.Sc., P.Eng., P.Biol., or P.Ag. preferred.
  • 6+ years of related experience in environmental management within industrial or production facility settings.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, EMS elements, and site operational processes, equipment, and feedstocks.
  • Proficiency with office and technical software applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams and influence environmental compliance outcomes
  • This position is located at Nutrien’s Fort Saskatchewan Nitrogen Operations site.
