Job description

Our client is looking for a hard‑working, self‑motivated employee with a proven record of safety and reliability to fill the position of Shop Supervisor in the Greater Sudbury area. Reporting to the Shop Manager, the Shop Supervisor will supervise a team of mechanics and technicians, including delegating work, prioritizing and assigning repair tasks, managing work orders and ensuring the team is productive and efficient. This is a full‑time permanent position with a rotation of days and afternoons and comes with competitive wages and a benefits package.

JOB DUTIES
  • Work alongside the Shop Manager to assist in delegating, prioritizing, and assigning workload for mechanics and shop staff.
  • Safely operate various vehicles, equipment, and tools.
  • Oversee and assign minor and major repairs on equipment, including but not limited to trailers, power‑operated equipment and hand tools.
  • Communication point for shop personnel and project managers.
  • Monitor shop inventory and coordinate the ordering of parts as needed.
  • Responsible for keeping accurate computerized records of time and parts used on work order tasks.
  • Assist in the development of transportation maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Direct, instruct, and work with department staff and other co‑workers on vehicle/equipment repair and maintenance issues.
  • Work with individual vehicle/equipment operators to understand and solve complaints and concerns regarding proper vehicle/equipment maintenance and operation.
  • Reinforce compliance with all company policies and procedures: safety standards operations, maintenance, training, cleanliness standards, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) etc.
  • Display professionalism toward our company and customers.
  • Work closely with all departmental teams in a positive, supportive and collaborative manner, placing the highest value on respect for the contribution, responsibility, and unique expertise that each department’s staff bring to the combined group.
  • Ensure the work environment and equipment are clean and tidy at all times.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • 310T/310S Certification is required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience working as a 310T mechanic.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in a supervisory or management role, including working in a unionized environment.
  • Valid G Class Driver’s License.
  • Experience in the concrete or construction industry is considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to monitor and review equipment repairs.
  • Ability to understand, identify and apply provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.
  • Leadership skills including understanding delegation, conflict resolution, and motivating the team and building positive relationships with staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook) including experience with commercial fleet tracking, Big Roads and Fleet Complete software.
  • Ability to work both day and afternoon shifts on a rotating basis.
  • Ability to adapt to last‑minute changes as dictated by the needs of our customers.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within the parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
