Responsibilities

Thompson Rivers University is seeking a sessional faculty member to teach one or two sections of EDEF3100: History of Education.

Section 1 : Tuesdays 12:30 - 3:20 p.m.

Section 2 : Tuesdays 8:30 - 11:20 a.m.

Course Description :

This foundations course explores the complex relationship between school and society. Teacher candidates examine how schools and societal factors influence each other over time, considering issues related to gender, race, sexuality, ethnicity, religion, social class, and location. Learning methods include readings, lectures, presentations, discussions, group work, reviews of television, film, and video materials, and guest speakers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Education
  • Master of Education
  • Recent K-12 teaching experience (preferably over three years full-time)
  • Advanced knowledge of the subject area
  • Understanding of child development in elementary or secondary education
  • Post-secondary teaching experience (preferred)
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Skills in fostering intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect
  • Experience in integrating Aboriginal knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62)
  • Skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding (TRC CA 63)
  • Ability to develop culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10)
