Overview

The Canadian Investment Fund Taxation team is responsible for the income tax compliance for all Manulife Canadian investment funds, including mutual funds (including ETFs), institutional pooled funds and private market partnership funds. We also provide tax advisory services to the business on fund initiatives, including new fund launches, fund mergers and terminations, and structured products. The key accountability of this role is to ensure timely and accurate compliance reporting to the tax authorities. This role provides the opportunity to gain knowledge and grow in experience within Canadian Investment Fund Taxation.

Position Responsibilities
  • Supporting the team on fund distributions and allocations
  • Reviewing Canadian trust, corporation, and partnership tax returns and notices of assessment
  • Performing monthly monitoring on investment funds to prevent adverse tax consequences
  • Reviewing and completing documentation for fund investments in foreign markets
  • Reviewing withholding tax rates applied by fund custodians
  • Supporting internal and external tax audits
  • Maintenance of investment fund lists
  • Analysis to support recommendations on fund launches, mergers, and portfolio rebalancing
  • Special distribution analysis

Preferred Qualifications
  • The CPA designation is a significant asset
  • Well-developed skills in accounting, analysis, and problem-solving
  • Over 2 years of relevant experience in taxation
  • Knowledge of the investment fund industry is an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks with overlapping deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel
  • Ability to build solutions in Power BI and/or Alteryx is an asset
  • Bilingual preferred but not required — the successful candidate will be required to communicate in English and French in order to support clients from various jurisdictions outside of Quebec.

Working Arrangement Hybrid

Salary range is expected to be between $71,925.00 CAD - $119,875.00 CAD
