About the Role

The Senior Platform Engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining Float’s cloud infrastructure and developer platform to ensure high performance, scalability, and security. This role sits at the intersection of platform engineering, DevOps, and software development, with a strong emphasis on automation, reliability, and developer productivity.

In addition to deep cloud and operational expertise, we’re looking for someone with strong development experience who can design and implement services, frameworks, and tooling that accelerate our engineering organization and drive adoption of our event-driven architecture.

What You'll Be Responsible For
Cloud Infrastructure & Operations
  • Build and maintain a robust and efficient infrastructure by designing, deploying, and managing services such as ECS, EKS, and RDS.

  • Optimize performance, availability, and reliability through monitoring, tuning, and continuous improvements.

  • Ensure compliance with cloud security best practices by implementing and enforcing security measures across AWS environments and containerized applications.

  • Maintain adherence to AWS Well-Architected Framework best practices.

Developer Platform & Experience
  • Design and develop a world-class Internal Developer Platform (IDP) that empowers engineers with self-service infrastructure, standardized workflows, and automated guardrails.

  • Enhance and maintain CI/CD pipelines to improve developer productivity, deployment speed, and system stability.

  • Drive adoption of platform tooling and practices through documentation, advocacy, and direct collaboration with engineering teams.

Development & Architecture
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of core platform services, frameworks, and libraries that underpin Float’s event-driven architecture.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate platform and security best practices directly into development workflows.

  • Participate in application architecture reviews, providing input on scalability, resilience, and security.

  • Write clean, maintainable, and testable code in languages such as Go, Python, or TypeScript.

Security & Compliance
  • Identify and mitigate risks through security assessments, vulnerability scans, and threat modeling.

  • Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, and incident response plans tailored to cloud and container environments.

  • Support compliance with standards such such as PCI-DSS 4.0 and SOC2.

Culture & Continuous Improvement
  • Contribute to a culture of excellence by promoting automation, observability, and continuous improvement across the organization.

  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in AWS cloud, developer tooling, and event-driven systems.

About You
Here’s what sets you up for success at Float:
  • You Put Customers First, Always. You care deeply about delivering meaningful value. Whether you're building internal systems or customer-facing features, you're always thinking about how to make life better for our users.

  • You Act Like an Owner. You take responsibility for outcomes, step up to challenges, and seek solutions proactively—doing what’s best for the business, not just your role.

  • You Think Big and Move Fast. You’re energized by building from 0 to 1. You’re not afraid to challenge the status quo, experiment quickly, and learn as you go.

  • You Constantly Learn and Grow. You’re hungry to improve your craft and open to feedback. You bring a growth mindset to everything you do.

  • You Raise the Bar. You care about doing things well and efficiently. You balance speed with rigor and always look for ways to improve how we work.

  • You Win as a Team. You’re a generous collaborator who values communication, context, and shared wins. You lift others up and help make the team stronger.

In addition to living our values, you bring:
  • Technical Expertise: Strong background in AWS cloud infrastructure, container orchestration (ECS/EKS), RDS, and IaC (Terraform/Pulumi).

  • Development Experience: Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Go, Python, TypeScript) with experience building services, tooling, or libraries used by other engineers.

  • Platform Mindset: Experience designing or contributing to an Internal Developer Platform, or similar systems that improve developer experience at scale.

  • DevOps & Automation: Deep experience with CI/CD, observability, and automated testing in production environments.

  • Security Knowledge: Familiarity with cloud security, identity management, and compliance frameworks.

  • Collaboration Skills: Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence adoption and align with engineering teams.

This may not be the role for you if...
  • You’re not extremely detail oriented

  • You aren’t a self-starter and don’t like to work independently

  • You’re not comfortable wearing multiple hats

  • You don’t like change and adapting to new ways of doing things

  • You aren’t comfortable with ambiguity

  • You aren’t able to translate technical jargon into simple language

  • You lack patience for iterative work

  • You want detailed to-dos for your tasks and projects

  • You’re not keen on learning new things

  • You don’t have strong stakeholder management skills

  • You don’t like regular feedback on your work
