We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong technical expertise and experience in proposal and business development. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional who can lead complex hydropower and dam projects, mentor teams, and actively contribute to client engagement.

In the Niagara Falls office you will have the opportunity to be involved in some of the most exciting hydropower and dam projects worldwide. You will be part of a Hydropower team that includes experts that are respected and recognized across the industry, and you can spend your out‑of‑office life in a beautiful small city, rich with activities that draw millions of visitors every year to the falls and to the local theatre, music festivals, concerts and fine dining. Niagara Falls is just a quick drive to Ontario’s wine country and the Toronto/Mississauga area and allows easy access to the state of New York in the US.

As a successful candidate, you will:
Technical Design & Analysis
  • Perform system analyses, establish user requirements, analyze system functional and performance requirements, define design criteria, and provide input to the design team on layouts and designs
  • Lead and execute mechanical engineering design and analysis for hydropower and dam projects
  • Develop preliminary and detailed designs as well as oversee and guide the preparation of mechanical drawings and engineering specifications for construction
  • Prepare technical specifications based on input received from other disciplines
  • Prepare, review or approve technical deliverables such as equipment designs, specifications, data sheets, calculations, etc.
  • Prepare and contribute to technical memos and reports within your areas of expertise
  • Provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates
  • Prepare, review or approve project standard specifications and design criteria
  • Provide input to 3D models and 2D mechanical drawings
  • Participate in and contribute to design reviews
  • Assist in the commissioning of systems on site as required
  • Follow company standard quality procedures
Project Management & Leadership
  • Lead and manage the process of engineering commitments in accordance with scope, schedule, budget and procedures to ensure successful project completion
  • Take ownership of high‑level technical deliverables and ensure quality standards
  • Manage and review engineering work packages associated with project deliverables including management of project budgets and schedule
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, technical guidance and quality assurance to other engineers to ensure the technical adequacy of engineering work
Business Development & Client Engagement
  • Prepare and review proposals, including scope, schedule, and budget development
  • Collaborate with business development teams to identify opportunities and build client relationships
  • Participate in client meetings, presentations, and negotiations
You bring to the role:
Education & Credentials
  • A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • A Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering would be considered an asset
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario or other Canadian Province (candidates with strong international experience and eligibility for P Eng. designation in Canada will be considered)
Experience & Technical Expertise
  • A minimum of 15 years of professional experience, preferably in hydropower projects and hydromechanical equipment (e.g., dams, gates, penstocks, etc.). Experience with turbines and rotating equipment is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with Computer Design Tools (Mathcad, AutoCAD, Inventor, Solidworks) will be considered an asset
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) programs
  • Knowledge of Canadian and provincial codes and standards
Leadership & Management
  • Manage multidisciplinary project teams and ensure successful delivery within budget and timelines
  • Experience in leading small and large mechanical teams in multi‑disciplinary projects
  • Ability to delegate tasks and effectively supervise engineers and designers
Soft Skills & Attributes
  • Strong client focus and a desire to achieve results including the ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision

Base salary range: $115,000 - $165,000

At Hatch, we are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. In accordance with legislated pay transparency requirements, the expected salary range for this position is based on current market data and aligned with internal pay structures to ensure consistency and fairness.

Your individual compensation within this range will depend on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications and location.
